Montclair, California company history timeline

1958

The name was changed in 1958, however, because another city in California had the name of Monte Vista which caused confusion in mail service.

1960

The years following the war saw widespread destruction of the citrus groves; by 1960, virtually none were left in what is today Montclair.

1964

On April 25, 1964, the Civic Center was dedicated on this property and it housed the City administrative offices and Police Department.

In 1964, land developers approached the City with an answer to their tax problems, a large shopping center.

1968

Three years later the first building permits were issued, and on August 3, 1968, 15,000 persons attended a Preview Ball for the new complex which contained 875,000 square feet, three major department stores, 64 smaller shops, and space for 5,000 cars.

1977

In 1977 the Board of Education established a system of magnet schools with the aim both of achieving racial balance and of enriching the curriculum.
