Pleasanton company history timeline

1826

It was a half-century after this discovery that Jose Amador, in 1826, brought the first settlement to the valley, which still bears his name.

1850

The first white settler in the immediate area of Pleasanton was Augustine Bernal in 1850.

1851

John W. Kottinger, who arrived in 1851, was responsible for the naming of Pleasanton after a distinguished Civil War general, Alfred Pleasonton.

1869

The name on the town plan is 'Pleasanton.' After that, some people might use the name "Alisal," but by 1869, the town is definitely Pleasanton."

1871

There was also Juan Soto (no, not the baseball player), who an 1871 article in the Daily Alta California described as "the worst man of that class who has lived since the famous Joaquin Murietta," though it looks like there may be a name-spelling error.

Soto died in a shootout with Alameda County Sheriff Harry Morse in 1871, and by then most of the desperados were dead, jailed or back in Mexico.

1894

2) Pleasanton was preceded by a town called Alisal, known as "The Most Desperate Town in the West." In 1894, it became part of Pleasanton.

1994

In 1994 Pleasanton celebrated its 100th anniversary as a city.

2000

In the year 2000, Pleasanton joined the ranks of certified California Main Street Communities, a designation bestowed by state's Trade and Commerce Agency under the auspices of the National Main Street Center.
