Community Advocates company history timeline

1976

In 1976, Ramon Wagner -- formerly a priest in the Catholic Church -- and two volunteers opened the doors of Community Advocates in a small storefront on Milwaukee’s north side.

2005

Since 2005, Community Advocates has grown from a staff of approximately 30 to a staff of more than 170.

2008

Community Advocates' leadership created the Public Policy Institute in 2008 to expand on the services the organization provides to our clients seeking help with their housing, health care, behavioral health, and safety needs.

The institute got off to a promising start in 2008 by winning funding from the New York-based Open Society Institute, which was soliciting proposals to deal with addiction.

2017

In October 2017, Baldwin and Booker unveiled their legislation with a press event in Community Advocates’ downtown Milwaukee offices.

2021

The budget has grown from $4 million to $20 million in 2021.
