Concordia Theological Seminary company history timeline

1941

Starting in 1941, all entering students had to be high school graduates, allowing the seminary to discontinue all high school classes.

1949

In 1949, ten years after the Seminary Guild started, donation day visitors donated 221 dozen eggs, 97 chickens, 5,000 quarts of home-canned goods, and $1,500 in cash donations. “But what a difference 70 years makes!” she exclaimed, before reading another set of numbers.

1951

John Chapman, both of whom were in attendance, was in office in 1951.

1965

An anniversary program in 1965 estimated that Concordia Springfield had educated 3,500 Lutheran clergy by that point, with another 500 enrolled at the time.

1975

In 1975 the Missouri Synod voted to move the Seminary to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

1976

In 1976, the seminary returned to Fort Wayne, where it inherited the Senior College's award-winning campus, designed by Eero Saarinen.

1977

2001

The campus suffered some damage, mostly to trees, from an F2 tornado that struck Fort Wayne in May 2001.

2009

Today’s history lessons was summarized with quotes ransacked (save for the quote from Deaconess Rast) from the first chapter of “In the Footsteps of Phoebe” by Cheryl D. Naumann (CPH, 2009).
