General Purpose:
The MaintenanceManager is responsible for directing and coordinating the facility maintenance operation to meet Company objectives for Production, Quality, Quantity and Cost. Participate in the overall strategic design and direction of the maintenance processes and related specification. Oversee the training of employees, setting of departmental production and performance goals, organization of work, and maintenance of a productive and motivational climate.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, direct and control the efforts of the Maintenance Department to maintain plant equipment and facilities commensurate with good engineering practices.
Manage assets to execute an effective preventive maintenance program, to minimize unscheduled down time, and ensure that equipment is ready to run when scheduled.
Ensure that all equipment and facility installations and or modifications meet or exceed all regulatory agency (i.e. USDA, FSA, OSHA, ADA, EPA, SMB) standards and comply with all DFA policies and or procedures
Assure that production equipment is capable of producing within the specifications and tolerances established by the equipment manufacturer
Consult with Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering and the Production Department regarding desirable modifications of existing equipment and facilities and the possible replacement of existing equipment, which will improve operations and reduce maintenance costs
Monitor and report maintenance key indicators to top management and make recommendations for necessary changes to drive improvement.
Keep and update equipment and facility records and procedures such as equipment manuals, schematic drawings, and facility drawings
Actively participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives (i.e. 5S, Kaizen, lean tools and etc.)
Develop and maintain an effective department through proper selection, training and assignment of personnel capable of maintaining all equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient working condition
Develop objectives and standards of performance for projects within the Maintenance Department required to meet departmental, divisional and corporate goals and objectives
Maintain and control departmental budget and ensure all work completed is within budget parameters and time constraints.
Participates in meetings or other communications with other departments regarding the resolution of ongoing issues, the implementation of new procedures or processes, or the development of new plans and designs
Utilize industry approved methodologies to ensure proper inventory control of MRO parts, and supplies
Adhere to all DFA Food Safety and Quality policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity
Adhere to all DFA Safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity

Maintain awareness of maintenance best practices and establish benchmarks, strategy, and plan to achieve world class maintenance
Serve as an escalation point of contact for emergency maintenance requests
Consult with engineering and management regarding desirable modifications of existing equipment and the possible replacement of existing equipment which will improve operations and reduce maintenance costs
Analyze cost studies of proposals for new equipment. Make recommendations to management
Plan and provide for an adequate supply and ensure control over spare parts and maintenance supplies
Implement cost-reduction measures to control expenses that impact the operating budget for repair, utility, pretreatment, and maintenance. May be involved in developing the capital budget
Keep management aware of all matters that impact equipment and facility performance
Remain current with latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to mechanical and electrical systems design and operation
Develop procedures and policies for maintenance department
Oversee department schedules to maximize both preventive and repair services, while minimizing unnecessary overtime expenditures
Manage assigned employees, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and performance management. Understand and effectively apply work rules, union contract provisions (if applicable), and employment policies. Administer discipline consistently and fairly. Load trailers by running grain spout, conveyors, grain vacuums and other loading equipment.
Direct grain based on grade to proper bin.
Responsible for monitoring and recording temperature cables, walking flats, tracking fan usage, monitoring bunker storage, monitoring grain dryer output and other location specific duties to ensure exceptional grain inventory quality.
Rail
Prepare rail/trailer cars for loading by opening lids, inspecting for foreign debris, closing and sealing bottom.
Load cars/trailers by running grain spout, closing lid after filling and locking lid.
Inspects locomotive before run to verify specified fuel, and general maintenance are in order.
Agronomy
Assist in scheduling, mixing and loading of liquid/dry fertilizer and chemicals.
Assist in ensuring the accuracy of mixing liquid/dry fertilizer and chemicals.
Assists in delivery of fertilizer, chemical and seed products to customers or Heartland Co-op application equipment.
Marine/Barge
Prepare barges for loading by opening lids, inspecting for foreign debris, checking for leaks.
Load barges by running grain spout, closing lid after filling and locking lid.
Prepare facility for unloading barges by directing conveyor to proper storage location in facility.
Unload barges using backhoe and conveyor system.
Gauge barge as directed by facility.
Maintains detailed dock logs to ensure all events are recorded in chronological order.
Cleaning and general housekeeping will be performed during seasonal slow times throughout the facility
Must maintain a valid driver's license and commercial insurability at all times.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
