EEO/AA Minority/Female/Disability/Veteran The Emergency Department (ED) at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut, is part of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS). Bridgeport Hospital is a private, not-for-profit acute care, community-teaching hospital located in Connecticut's most populous city. We work collaboratively to provide compassionate care and utilize evidence-based practice to improve outcomes. Our ED is a 45-bed unit that accommodates the care of 92,000 visits per year using an innovative vertical flow model. We are a state-designated regional level II Trauma Center and Connecticut's only Burn Center. The Bridgeport ED is also an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, Heart and Vascular Center, and the first Accredited Geriatric Emergency Department in Connecticut. Within the 45-beds, the ED has Bridgeport's only dedicated to Children's Emergency Department. This 7-bed unit is staffed with board-certified emergency medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, child life specialists, and specially trained pediatric ED nurses. In 2022, we opened a newly remodeled 10-bed Behavioral Health Unit. The Behavioral Health Unit was designed to provide a safe environment for patients who require emergency psychiatric care. The Behavioral Health Crisis Unit is staffed by specially trained psychiatric physicians, advanced practice providers, and psychiatric nursing staff. The ED at Bridgeport Hospital is staffed with registered nurses trained in Emergency Nursing and provides care for patients across the lifespan. Our ED hires many experienced nurses from other specialties and new graduate nurses into a comprehensive nurse residency program each year. Supporting our nursing staff, the ED technicians serve as essential team members within the department, assisting with EKGs, lab draws, splinting, suture removal, and ensuring a positive patient experience. The medical provider staffing consists of board-certified emergency medicine physicians and advanced practice providers. As a primary teaching hospital, the ED works closely with emergency medicine residents from Yale University. We also host nursing, medical, and advanced practice students from universities in our area. Bridgeport Hospital's ED prides itself on delivering patient-centered care, utilizing a collaborative approach with all emergency professionals.
