As a Staff Data Engineer and Scientist, you will be an integral member of our Customer Analytics team, responsible for shaping the future of our business operations through robust data infrastructure and advanced analytical solutions. This unique hybrid role combines data engineering and applied AI/ML, requiring an entrepreneurial problem-solver who thrives in tackling ambiguous business problems through their deep understanding of the business as well as deep technical expertise. Data Engineering Foundations
Design & Development: Design and implement scalable data architectures and datasets that support the organization's evolving data needs, providing the technical foundations for our analytics team and business users.

Qualifications
Your Experience
7 plus years experience building and maintain data pipeline both for reporting, analysis and feature engineering.
Experience building and optimizing clean, well-structured analytical datasets for business and data science use cases. This includes Implementing and supporting Big Data solutions for both batch (scheduled) and real-time (streaming) analytics.
Prior experience working extensively within dynamic cloud environments, specifically Google Cloud Services (GCS) BigQuery and Vertex AI.
Prior experience developing dashboards in Tableau/Looker or similar data viz platform.
Nice to have: Experience implementing and managing data-level security features to ensure data is protected and access is properly controlled.
Expert-level programming skills in Python and familiarity with core data science and machine learning libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, Pandas, PyTorch/TensorFlow, XGBoost).
A solid command of SQL for complex querying and data manipulation.
Proven ability to work autonomously, navigate ambiguity, and drive projects from concept to completion.
Preferred Qualifications

Compensation Disclosure
The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. Shipping cost optimization: Build ML models that provide accurate shipping cost estimates. Engineer new features to improve model performance. These models may use live carrier information and be both performant and explainable.
Underwriting: Improve Faire's Net terms portfolio by evaluating creditworthiness of retailers on Faire's platform. Use predictive modeling to dynamically assign credit terms limits that minimize default risk and maximize growth.
Retailer Growth & Lifecycle: Build models to automatically generate landing pages and content to target search engine demand. Use natural language processing to understand search engine keyword intent and match to relevant internal content. Build ML models to generate intelligence about retailers to power personalization. Predict retailer lifetime values to optimize retailer acquisition spend.
Qualifications
An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant discipline such as statistics, economics, econometrics, mathematics, computer science, operations research, etc.
Strong machine learning skills and 3+ years of experience productionizing machine learning models (Sklearn, XGBoost, or Deep Learning)

You'll need:

As a Data Scientist in our Core organization, you will shape the future of people-facing and business-facing products we build at Pinterest. What you'll do:
Develop best practices for instrumentation and experimentation and communicate those to product engineering teams to help us fulfill our mission - to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love
Bring scientific rigor and statistical methods to the challenges of product creation, development and improvement with an appreciation for the behaviors of our Pinners
Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale while developing comprehensive knowledge of data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed for product development

What we're looking for:
5+ years of experience analyzing data in a fast-paced, data-driven environment with proven ability to apply scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data
Extensive experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches including in the fields of Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Forecasting, Econometrics or other related fields
Experience using machine learning and deep learning frameworks, such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn
A scientifically rigorous approach to analysis and data, and a well-tuned sense of skepticism, attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, results-oriented output
Ability to manipulate large data sets with high dimensionality and complexity; fluency in SQL (or other database languages) and a scripting language (Python or R)
Excellent communication skills and ability to explain learnings to both technical and non-technical partners
A team player who's able to partner with cross-functional leadership to quickly turn insights into actions
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience
