Ear, Nose & Throat Institute company history timeline

1895

The Eye and Ear Hospital of Pittsburgh was organized by a group of civic leaders in 1895.

In 1895, John Marvin Ingersoll was subsequently made lecturer in Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology.

1927

He later developed and popularized the tonsillar snare technique which was gradually adopted by nearly all otolaryngologists in the US. In 1927, Carlos Pitkin MD joined the growing department after training at Harvard with Harold Mosher at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear infirmary.

1934

With its expanding patient population, the third Eye and Ear Hospital was ready for occupancy in 1934, replacing the building on Fifth Avenue.

1948

In 1948 the School of Audiology was set up and funded by the Department of Health to train, to teach and develop audiology services in the UK and Commonwealth.

1961

Doctor Raymond Jordan, a very prominent otologic surgeon who practiced with Doctor Kenneth Day Sr. and Doctor Kenneth Day Jr., became Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology in 1961 after Doctor McCullough's retirement.

1964

In 1964, a new addition called the West Wing was completed.

1980

Doctor Sataloff's primary long-term associate was his son Robert Thayer Sataloff, MD, DMA, who joined the practice in 1980.

1985

After an extensive national search, Dr Anthony J. Maniglia was selected from the University of Miami in 1985 as our first official department chairman.

1987

The Eye & Ear Institute was established in 1987.

1988

In 1988, Dr Melvin Strauss joined the faculty from Penn State at Hershey after training under Dr Joseph Ogura at Washington University in St Louis.

1990

The Eye & Ear Hospital ceased to exist as a separate entity on October 1, 1990.

In the late 1990's, the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) moved away from its original site in Gower Street, and the Middlesex Hospital, formerly associated with an otolaryngology institute called the Ferens, was closed down.

1991

Ear, Nose & Throat Consultants of Nevada (ENTC) was founded in 1991 by Doctor Walter W. Schroeder and Doctor David Foggia.

1992

Dale B. Smith, D.O. opened his private practice in Lawton in 1992 as Southwest Oklahoma Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialists with 4 staff members.

1993

The Eye & Ear Institute, as an entity, was sold to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for an additional 3 million dollars in 1993 bringing the endowments to a total of 20 million dollars.

1996

Doctor Smith along with three other surgeons also founded the first free-standing multi-speciality surgery center in Lawton in 1996.

1998

In 1998, Wright, Forge and Kemp drew up outline plans to create a new building which was to be a centre for auditory research housing the hearing scientists from across UCL in a purpose-built facility.

2000

By the year 2000, the practice grew to include these physicians: California Ear/Sinus Institute Fellowship trained otologist Doctor Ashley Sikand, Doctor Charles Abdo, Doctor James H. Heroy III, Doctor Frederick Goll III, Doctor Mead Hemmeter, Doctor Larry Yu, and Hearing Aid Specialist Laurie Abdo.

Upon Dr Maniglia's retirement in 2000, Dr James Arnold was selected as Chairman and began to create subspecialty divisions.

2002

After many years of successfully practicing otolaryngology, Doctor Hemmetter chose to retire in 2002.

2003

In 2003 expanding staff and continuing to add the latest in medical and surgical care, lead to the practice to change its name to the Allergy, Ear, Nose, and Throat Institute.

2005

Following this £10.98m award, the new building was constructed, and opened in January 2005.

2006

In 2006, Prof David McAlpine was appointed the Director of the Ear Institute, taking over from Prof Tony Wright.

2009

ENTC opened a new office in the Southwest region of Las Vegas in January 2009 and closed the La Canada office.

2010

By 2010, at the request of local Altus physicians, the Altus Satellite office was added in the Carter Medical Building across the street from Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

2011

Doctor Charles Abdo retired from medical practice in September 2011 and his patient records will be stored with ENTC.

2012

ENTC opened their newest office in the Green Valley region of Henderson in July 2012 on St Rose Parkway.

In 2012, Dr Cliff Megerian was selected as Chairman.

2014

ENT Institute was recognized nationally by the Hearing Healthcare Industry in 2014 for demonstrating “Best Practices for Patient Care, Service and Satisfaction”. Our Providers are used as benchmarks for other practices to achieve.

The Pine Street office was closed in 2014, and the practice was consolidated in the Drexel Medicine building at 219 N. Broad Street.

2017

In August of 2017 Doctor Christine Mirabal joined Ear, Nose Throat as our first female physician.

2019

The Institute had interim directorship for a couple of years until January 2019 when Prof Jonathan Gale was appointed as the Director of the Institute.

2021

Doctor LaKeisha Henry joined the group in July 2021
