Job Summary
Responsible for inspection, testing and maintenance of electrical, electronic and HVAC systems on rolling stock equipment and components in accordance with FRA and Amtrak standards and guidelines.
Essential Functions
* Performs inspection, testing and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations and Amtrak standards and guidelines
* Utilizes a variety of test equipment, PC, and graphic information to diagnose malfunctions, troubleshoot and qualify components and circuits to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures
* Repairs and/or replaces doors, electronics, signs, pantographs, and HVAC systems
* Installs components such as motors, generators, switches, relays, batteries, and transformers
* Performs approved electrical modifications and repairs or replaces components, as necessary
* Troubleshoots equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures
* Maintains proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job
* Works on electrical systems and components with AC and DC voltage
Minimum Qualifications
* HVAC experience
* High School Diploma or GED
* Valid driver's license is required at time of hire.
* Experience in electrical repairs, and testing advanced electrical/electronic systems and reading, drafting, and interpreting circuit diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings
* Experience in both A/C and D/C electrical systems
* Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certifications applicable to assigned job
* Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems

The incumbent troubleshoots electrical problems, maintains inventory of equipment and electrical supplies, and determines materials and/or equipment for assigned projects. The Electrician II maintains reports regarding time and production, repairs, and cost analysis. This is an Emergency Personnel position; the incumbent is expected to report to duty when the Governor states that only Emergency Personnel are to report to their jobs during certain Governor-declared emergencies.
Duties for the Electrician II include:
Plans layout and installs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment, with the exception of elevator control equipment; plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, to provide access for future maintenance, to avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable wiring and to conform with specifications and electrical codes.
Repairs and maintains electrical equipment, such as motors, generators, transformers, regulators, wiring, switches, alarm systems and control equipment, by locating and determining the reason for malfunction, through the use of testing instruments, such as generators and heaters for the purpose of determining safety and efficiency.
Prepares sketches to identify the location for all wiring and equipment, or follows previously prepared diagrams and blueprints, to ensure that concealed wiring is installed prior to the completion of future walls, ceilings and floorings.
Observes and/or inspects the functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement and repairs faulty equipment or systems, as required.
Inspects circuits and wiring for specified shielding and groundings, and repairs or rewires systems in accordance with building codes and safety regulations.
Operates and maintains motors, generators, testing, switchboards, and power panels in good order, to avoid malfunctioning.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties, such as tests and charges storage batteries; reads electric meters and records meter readings; cleans and lubricates electrical machinery and equipment; maintains an inventory of parts and equipment, etc.
May supervise Laborers assisting in performing electrical installation, maintenance, and repair duties.
Assists in maintenance and security of grounds and buildings as needed.
Assist in snow removal operations as required.
May attend meetings, seminars, and workshops.
Performs other duties as assigned by Facility Manager or Facility Manager Designee.

These positions are only open to current UConn NP-2 QCW Electricians that have completed the training requirements of the Power Distribution Electrician job classification. These positions are categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Position Description: We seek a dedicated individual who will safely work as part of a small team to maintain all phases of electrical switch gear, both high and low voltage, as well as all electrical equipment throughout the plant. INTRODUCTION
UConn's Facilities Operations Department has two job openings for Power Distribution Electrician positions at the Storrs Campus. The Power Distribution Electrician positions are permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours/week positions. The work schedule will be determined by seniority and discussed during the interview.
These positions are only open to current UConn NP-2 QCW Electricians that have completed the training requirements of the Power Distribution Electrician job classification. Current QCW Electrical employees who meet all of the minimum qualifications and special requirements of the job specification will be provided with an opportunity for an interview for the positions. In order to be eligible for the positions, current UConn NP-2 QCW Electrical employees must have completed two years of training with an energized voltage over 600 volts, successful completion of Eversource ESOP 100 high voltage training and hold an active E-1 or E-2 license. The hourly rate of pay will be determined based on the employee's current Step of the Pay Plan.
These positions are categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends and holidays) and must make the commitment to work scheduled shutdowns during regular work hours and on overtime. Please note that Facilities Operations NP-2 employees may also be required to perform job duties as assigned at any of the Regional Campuses.

* Incumbents in this class will be required to drive and operate motor vehicles, including, but not limited to vans, bucket trucks, box trucks, and pick-up trucks ranging in size from compact, midsize, full-size, and heavy-duty, some of which are equipped with lift gates.
* Incumbents must have adequate physical strength and agility to walk up and down stairs frequently and climb ladders independently. Must be able to lift, carry and push material weighing up to 75 lbs. Must have the ability to utilize ladders, scaffolding, high-lifts and enter confined spaces.
