KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: + Designs and manages operations, planning and development of the Emory Enterprise storage and critical infrastructure to include high performance computing and electronic medical records systems. + Ensures the infrastructure provides the centralized fiber attached (SAN) and network attached (NAS) storage critical to enterprise-wide applications and systems. + Owns the enterprise storage and data protection strategy and multi-year roadmap, including lifecycle management, capacity forecasting, technology refresh planning, and the evaluation of emerging solutions both on premise and in cloud-hosted environments. + Oversees storage-based offsite replication and the enterprise data protection infrastructure. + Manages people resources and processes to administer day-to-day operations. + Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities to facilitate career development. + Ensures direct and indirect reports have documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to develop these individuals professionally. + Conducts performance evaluations consistently and fairly to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement. + Manages team compliance with division policies and procedures to meet ITIL and enterprise requirements and expectations. + Provides technical expertise to support team collaboration for resolving issues and meeting customer expectations. + Interacts with division resources to promote the department's role and to ensure adherence to IT governance and ITSM processes for achieving enterprise-wide efficiencies. + Evaluates and summarizes departmental metrics to measure performance and forecast future needs. + Conducts regular meetings with EHC IT staff to review and clarify current and future storage needs. + Acts as storage team project planning representative to provide technical feedback and to ensure storage team resources are available. + Interacts with University and Healthcare central IT, departments, and researchersto provide solutions to non-OIT organizations. + Provisions storage to maintain application availability. + Manages vendor breaks and fixes to maintain storage and application availability. + Monitors storage health to maintain application availability. + Monitors storage utilization to ensure storage inventory availability for routine application growth. + Monitors data protection operations and capacity to maintain application recovery options. + Conducts routine vendor meetings to maintain partnerships with the enterprise's major vendors. Negotiates storage purchases to achieve competitive pricing. + Performs other related responsibilities as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + A bachelor's degree in IT or a related field and seven years of relevant IT experience including demonstrated technical expertise in specific IT areas, project management skills and lead or supervisory experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. + Extensive experience in the implementation and production support of an enterprise system. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Demonstrated hands-on technical leadership-willing and able to engage directly with the technology to troubleshoot, validate designs, and partner with healthcare and university engineers on complex production strategy and deployments. + Demonstrated competence and strong working knowledge of storage and data protection in AWS (e.g., S3, EBS, FSx, AWS Backup, and Storage Gateway). + Demonstrated competence and strong working knowledge of storage and data protection in Azure (e.g., Azure Blob, Azure Disk, Azure File, Azure NetApp, Azure Backup concepts). + Ability to architect cost-effective and efficient data mobility patterns between on-prem resources and cloud providers developing hybrid data management approaches. + Deep expertise in enterprise data protection strategy and operations, including Dell/EMC Data Domain (PowerProtect) and related backup, replication, retention, and recovery practices-driving lifecycle governance aligned to business needs. + Deep expertise operating unstructured data platforms-especially Dell/EMC Isilon (PowerScale) - including cluster administration, performance troubleshooting, quota/snapshot strategy, capacity forecasting, and lifecycle/tiering design. + Strong consultative mindset with a track record of acting as a solutions partner with university and healthcare customers-bringing options, tradeoffs, and recommendations as well as leading the engineering team to fulfill those recommendations.Proactive, systems-level thinker who anticipates and mitigates storage and data protection risks, including recoverability, resiliency, and service continuity. + Experience evaluating and recommending modern storage and data protection solutions, including comparing platforms and emerging solutions (including cloud-based solutions) alongside traditional enterprise vendors (e.g., Dell/EMC) based on fit, cost, performance, and operational impact. + Experience with Globus and high-speed data movement architectures (endpoints, throughput optimization, and secure transfer workflows). Commercial and Medical Affairs Systems Serve as the primary liaison between Japan and global Information Systems teams, fostering cross-functional collaboration while maintaining data governance and separation of processes. Partner with business leaders to develop prioritized roadmaps and capture requirements, ensuring alignment with global IS/IT platform roadmaps while tailoring solutions to country/regional needs. Act as an effective liaison by proactively communicating priority needs for the APAC/Japan region and working closely with other regions to align on shared priorities, expectations, and consistent working norms. Support rollout, localization, and adoption of global platforms (e.g., CRM, digital engagement, Omnichannel marketing, medical information, medical content management, field engagement tools). Partner with local Commercial, Supply Chain and Quality teams to ensure IS/IT systems supporting product distribution, logistics, and product release operate reliably and comply with local regulatory standards. Oversee localization and validation of IS/IT systems to meet Japan-specific business and regulatory needs, including language, documentation, and integration with local platforms. Provide Tier 1-2 application support in partnership with global support teams, ensuring seamless end-to-end service delivery. Lead change management for new IS/IT systems, including user testing, training, communications, and stakeholder alignment to ensure successful adoption and continuous improvement. Information Technology and Security Establish and manage relationships with local managed service providers and vendors. Collaborate with global IT infrastructure teams to ensure reliable and secure delivery of core IT services (network, hardware, collaboration platforms, endpoint management). Oversee system enhancements, integrations, and facilitate compliance with Japanese data production and pharmaceutical regulations, including pharmacovigilance, promotional review, and data privacy (APPI, PMD Act). Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring timely provisioning/deprovisioning of accounts and devices aligned with local and global IT policies and security standards. Ensure adherence to global IT service management and change control processes, including incident, request, and problem management, while coordinating escalations with global support teams. Partner with global Information Security teams to ensure adherence to enterprise security standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. Lead Japan-specific implementation and oversight of security controls-including identity and access management, data protection, compliance monitoring, cybersecurity training, audits, and incident response coordination with global security operations. R&D Systems: Partner with global R&D IS to enable secure access to research and clinical platforms in compliance with regulatory requirements (GxP, CTMS, EDC, RIM, eCTD, PV safety database, etc). Required Skills, Experience and Education: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent). Minimum of 12 years of experience delivering technology services and support, including Commercial systems. At least 5 years of experience leading Japan IT activities within a life sciences organization. Proven leadership experience building and scaling IT teams in emerging country operations, including recruitment, performance management, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Hands-on knowledge of IT infrastructure, end-user services, and cybersecurity practices. Strong understanding of Commercial data ecosystems (CRM, digital engagement, social, and third-party sources) and their integration across platforms. Knowledge of master data management (MDM), data warehousing principles and technologies, and enterprise analytics environments (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake), supporting Commercial and Medical insights. In-depth knowledge of GxP systems, regulatory, compliance, and data privacy frameworks and processes. Experienced in leading organizational change for IT initiatives, driving user adoption through clear communication, stakeholder alignment, and compelling storytelling. Collaborative and effective in building rapport across global, regional, local, and functional teams. Comfortable with ambiguity and skilled at defining operating models, processes, and roles while simultaneously implementing capabilities. Preferred Skills: Experience supporting pre-commercial or commercial launches in pharma strongly preferred. Familiarity with Omnichannel principles and technology platforms in life sciences. Experience with an Oncology launch is desired.
