The MRT-55, designed from the UV-3, proved to be a viable product in the marine radio market, and led to the production of the MRT-55C. The RR-3 was introduced in 1981 to replace the RR-2 which had replaced the RR-1 earlier.
The second phase of the Franklin plant became reality in 1984.
