1990

A staunch anticommunist, he was proud to have supported the union that helped topple the communist government of Poland in 1990; however, American labour leaders complained that the union money spent on foreign affairs should have gone to programs that would benefit American workers.

Then-Secretary of Labor, Elizabeth Dole, and First Lady Barbara Bush addressed BPW's members at the White House Briefing during the 1990 "Lobby Day" event.

1994

In 1994 Kirkland was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

1995

When Kirkland retired on August 1, 1995, he named his secretary-treasurer, Thomas R. Donahue, to fill the remainder of his term.

Also in 1995, the first person of colour was elected to an AFL-CIO executive office when Linda Chavez-Thompson became executive vice president.

2012

In 2012 the NFIB was involved in the landmark National Federation of Independent Business et al. v.

Elaine Oppenheimer has been in love with the GFWC Needham Women’s Club since joining in 2015.

2018

On August 12, 2018, the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York will mark its 80 years of life, work, and action.
