Foundations Recovery Network company history timeline
Founded around in 1995, the FRN (Foundations Recovery Network) established as a leading provider of treatment for people with a diagnosis of drug misuse and mental disorders.
In 1996 Foundations Associates gained momentum as the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment funded a three-year evaluation of its methods and outcomes.
In 2000, the original founder of FA formed a small for-profit entity, Dual Diagnosis Management (DDM) which later purchased The Canyon at Peace Park in Malibu, California as its first for-profit treatment facility.
In fall 2003, FRN decided it was time to apply this approach to a world class, state-of-the-art healing center in the beautiful, natural setting of Malibu, and the idea for The Canyon at Peace Park was born.
The Canyon opened its doors just nine months later, accepting its first clients in June 2004.
Also in 2007, FRN’s system of care was referred to as the “gold standard” in dual diagnosis treatment by Mark McGovern, Ph.D., of Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center who helped develop the Dual Diagnosis Capability in Addiction Treatment (DDCAT) assessment.
In 2015, the Pennsylvania-based Universal Health Services, Inc. purchased Foundations Recovery Network to serve as the foundation of their Addiction Services Division.
And in 2016, FRN launched The Life Challenge, a national alumni community created to engage and encourage people in recovery as part of their continuum of care.
