Freeman Regional Health Services company history timeline

1960

The new wing was dedicated in 1960.

1968

In 1968 Doctor Lonnie Waltner joined Freeman’s medical practice.

1997

The Freeman Regional Health Services complex also includes Walnut Street Village, a 10-apartment congregate living facility constructed in 1997.

2005

In October of 2005, a Dementia Care Unit opened at Oakview Terrace.The 10-bed unit is a part of the Oakview Terrace Nursing Home, but is an independent unit specifically designed for patients with Alzheimer’s Disease or other types of dementia.

In 2005, Rural Medical Clinics and Freeman Regional Health Services announced plans for changes in their obstetrics services that include ending the delivery of babies at Freeman Hospital.

2007

A new apartment complex, Dewald Street Village, was completed in July of 2007.

2009

The Freeman Regional Health Services Foundation was established in 2009 to support the mission of Freeman Regional Health Services.

David Baker, DO, joined Freeman in 2009 as a surgeon and worked with Freeman General and Vascular Surgical Group.

2011

On May 1, 2011, Freeman Regional Health Services, in a joint venture with Avera Medical Group, purchased the practice of the Rural Medical Clinics in Freeman, Menno, Marion and Bridgewater.

Since the May 22, 2011, tornado, Freeman has responded to increased patient volumes by enhancing our current services and opening new facilities to stay ahead of the needs of our community.

Gary left in 2011 and now Paula Baker has done great work as CEO since taking over the beginning of 2011.

2015

Nick Brandner came on board in the interim capacity in January 2015 and accepted the permanent CEO role in April 2015.

Freeman Health System is a founding stakeholder of the Ozarks Health Commission (OHC), which was formed in 2015.

2020

Brandner retired in November 2020.

2021

Doctor Baker previously served as President of Freeman Medical Staff and became the Chief Medical Officer in 2021.
