COMPENSATION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Graduate Assistant is a live-in residential education opportunity in an upperclassmen apartment community. The purpose of this assistantship is to provide the individual an opportunity to apply and practice theory learned in the classroom.
The Graduate Assistant under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life, is responsible for the coordination and development of the residence program within his/her living area. S/he is the main facilitator in the planning and implementation of a meaningful residence life experience for students. The Graduate Assistant is primarily an educator with a developmental philosophy, committed to helping residential students bridge their academic and interpersonal worlds. Included as responsibilities are: general counseling and guidance, living area programming, supporting Resident Advisor staff selection, training and development. RESPONSIBILITIES
(Approximately 20 hours per week)
1. Residence Life Leadership:
● Support Resident Advisor selection process
● Attend 6 Spring Training sessions on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 pm

TIME COMMITMENTS
The Graduate Assistant has daytime meetings, daily assignments, and the responsibility of planning a weekly schedule, which includes the following:

● Attending bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with their direct supervisor.
● Maintaining scheduled office hours in the Residence Life office or apartment office.
The Graduate Assistant is also expected to be available on weekends during which special events are schedule (i.e. Check-in, Check-out, and August Training). It is expected that the Graduate Assistant will have a weekly schedule on file with his/her supervisor.

The role is designed based on an apprenticeship model where Graduate Assistants are invited into many departmental processes to both observe, learn alongside, and contribute. It is expected that they would finish their time in this role at Vanguard University with a broad knowledge of housing operations, residence life, professional teamwork, student affairs, and student care and conduct that will prepare them for a future career in higher education. This position is approximately 20 hours per week for about 10 months.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The REGA assists the Towers Hall Assistant Director with Huntington and Laguna Hall living area building management, RA team leadership, and residential student success throughout the academic year including but not limited to leadership training and development, check-in, care/conduct meetings, check-out, student mentorship, programming, group discipleship, data tracking, and identifying emerging residential education opportunities.
