1843

Fort Des Moines was established in 1843 at the confluence of the two rivers to protect the rights of the Sauk and Fox peoples who then inhabited the region.

1845

Des Moines, city, capital of Iowa, United States, and seat (1845) of Polk county.

The area was opened to settlers in 1845.

1857

The community grew rapidly and became a city in 1857, the word “Fort” being dropped from the name.

1871

The capitol building (1871–86), built in the Greek Revival style, stands on 165 acres (67 hectares) of grounds, and the State of Iowa Historical Building houses the state archives and history museum.

1913

Contents included old photos of the Lincoln Highway, the first coast-to-coast road built in 1913 for automobile travel in the United States, as it appeared in the early days in Belle Plaine.

1966

The Heart of Iowa Chorus was chartered in July 1966 in Marshalltown, Iowa.

1970

Iowa Heart Center was founded by Doctor David Gordon as a one-physician practice in 1970.

1979

Iowa Heart Center made history on November 29, 1979, when Doctor Iannone performed the state's first percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.

1980

Doctor Gordon scored a first for Iowa Heart Center in January of 1980 by being the first cardiologist to administer the drug streptokinase on a patient who had suffered a heart attack.

1983

In 1983 while being a member of Region 20, the Heart of Iowa came away with First Place.

1990

Doctor Iannone continued to make Iowa medical history, and in 1990, became the first cardiologist to perform a directional coronary arthrectomy.

2009

Wallace Winkie, that served in the Infantry Division at the same period of time during World War II. Both frequently rode the same style of Harley that Kreider was displaying during the re-enacted 2009 Transcontinental Convoy.

In 2009, Iowa Heart Center joined forces with Mercy Medical Center — Iowa's premier hospital facility.
