HeartShare Human Services of New York history
HeartShare Human Services of New York company history timeline
Since its founding in 1914, HeartShare has expanded its reach to over 100 program sites in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, as well as to 60 of the 62 New York counties through energy grants to low-income families.
By 1986, the agency was providing services for over 1,000 boys and girls in foster and group home care along with their families.
In 1997, St Vincent’s launched the American Dream Program (ADP), which has helped over 100 foster youth graduate from college and vocational schools since its inception.
Since its inception as the American Dream Fund in 1997, the program has changed the lives of 100 young men and women.
In 1999, St Vincent’s Services (SVS) first opened its licensed Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program.
In 2007, SVS launched its Supportive Housing Initiative, serving adult clients who struggle with substance abuse, mental health issues and/or developmental disabilities.
Opened in 2011, HeartShare’s SPA Overnight Respite Program is located on the second floor of a spacious two-family home in Great Kills, Staten Island.
In 2014, St Vincent’s Services affiliated with HeartShare Human Services of New York, which created the third largest children’s services provider in New York City.
Developed and led by Melody Centeno, LMSW, who herself grew up in foster case, our annual fashion show (which began in 2016) represents both a moment of transformation and celebration for our youth.
2019 marked two important milestones for HSVS: our American Dream Program reached 100 enrollees and our agency celebrated its 150th birthday.
