The big old house that was built on the site in 1871 still stands, flanked by newer construction added over the years as the men and women of the Homeland family expanded, refined, and redefined their mission.
In 1955, the Home unofficially changed its name to Homeland Center to represent its philosophy on the care of its residents.
In 1959, north and south wings were added to the building, allowing for the admission of men for the first time.
Since 1986, Open Stage of Harrisburg has given theatrical life to stories of love, memory, conflict, and courage.
For the 2015 production of “Stories from Home: People Who Care,” Open Stage turned to Homeland for true stories demonstrating how a community cares for those who can’t care for themselves.
Homeland Center and Homeland at Home will celebrate its 155th anniversary of serving central Pennsylvania, and pay tribute to Betty Hungerford on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Hilton Harrisburg.
