1935

Lucile completed her English degree in 1935, and then decided to attend a secretarial school to enhance her job prospects - a degree didn't change the fact that work opportunities for women were still limited.

Throughout 1938, the two men worked on prototypes for any number of devices they thought might help launch their fledgling company.

1940

Lu resigned from Stanford with the birth of David Woodley Packard in 1940, but she continued working at HP. By now, the business had grown enough to justify hiring a bookkeeper.

1942

Sometime after 1942, possibly in response to a severe housing shortage created by the second World War and the influx of post-war students, the house was renumbered 367 (369 was dropped) and was further divided into four or possibly five apartments.

1958

In 1958, the company expanded into Europe.

1960

Expansion continued as Hewlett-Packard expanded production at 1501 Page Mill Road in the Stanford Industrial Park (later Stanford Research Park) and moved its corporate headquarters there in 1960.

Nostalgia, humor and hope: excerpts from a 1986 interview with Lucile Packard.

After Dave died in 1996, the Department of Defense created the David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award in his honor.

2003

By the time the series was retired in 2003, Hewlett-Packard had sold about 200,000 units to the tune of about $40 billion.

2005

Finally, in 2005 - as the house enters its centennial year - the little garage on Addison Avenue and its surroundings will receive the tender loving care that symbols of HP’s heritage so richly deserve.

2008

In 2008, the company further diversified when it agreed to acquire Electronic Data Systems (EDS), a Plano, Texas-based IT and data processing services firm pictured above.
