About the Position
The Fife/Drum Instructor will assist the Fife & Drum Corps Supervisor in the musical instruction and implementation of their assigned section (fife or drum), interpretive planning and implementation to achieve the overall goals of the Fife and Drum Corps.
Essential Functions:
Provides instruction and training while ensuring quality performances with historical accuracy, to juvenile members of the Fife and Drum Corps. May participate in interviewing process, observe performances, and provide constructive feedback.
Advises the Fife & Drum Corps Supervisor of personnel problems or important issues affecting juvenile employees and make recommendations for improvement.
Conduct research involving period music arrangement, instruments, performance methods and techniques, historic performances, lives of musicians of all races and ethnicities, and related topics.
Works with the Fife & Drum Corps Supervisor and the Lead Instructor counterpart to determine the repertoire for the Fife and Drum Corps as well as prepare and maintain the performance schedule of Corps members to specific programs.
Serves as a performer to supplement the program when needed. Participates in program initiatives. Coordinates with other leaders in the Foundation to participate in and support a variety of special events and initiatives.
Coordinate with Fife & Drum Corps Supervisor to work with other Foundation employees to develop or support other interpretive programs; offer special workshops, symposiums, and other presentations; cooperates in areas of production, research, publications, etc.
Assists Fife & Drum Corps Supervisor in ensuring that all safety and security procedures established for the staff, site, tools, materials, artifacts/antiques, and equipment are followed.
Transports staff, performers and program materials to and from the Fife and Drum Building using Foundation approved vehicles and following departmental guidelines.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required and Preferred Education and Experience:
Required: Degree in Public History, Musical Performance or similarly related fields, or commensurate experience of 4 years of musical performance in a related instrument.
Preferred: Familiarity and past participation in historic music and/or Fife and Drum performances. Proven work in a museum or public history setting. Familiarity with Finale and other digital music software and technology.

Ability to use Foundation computers and existing software including Microsoft Office products, and other Colonial Williamsburg approved media devices and programs as systems are upgraded.
Proficient on assigned instrument (fife or drum) in proper playing techniques and musical knowledge appropriate to the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums Corp.
Must be able to pass all tunes in the Fife and Drum Repertoire up to and including the rank of Sergeant to the Fife and Drum Corps Supervisor within 1 year of job hire date.
Must be proficient in Drum Majoring abilities in order to lead with confidence programming with either the Junior or Senior Corps

* Management Science - This course focuses on management science techniques used for problem solving and decision-making in all areas of management. These techniques involve the application of mathematical modeling and an analytical approach to business problems. Students learn to determine which methods are appropriate for solving various types of problems. The primary goal of the course is to help students become more skilled builders and consumers of models. Another important goal is to encourage a more disciplined thinking process when approaching management situations. Management science and operations research tools such as linear programming, sensitivity analysis, and decision trees are covered.
* Software Applications for Business - The Software Applications for Business class covers advanced skills training in Microsoft Excel as well as selected topics in Microsoft Access. Candidates should be able to teach principles of database design and SQL queries. Preference will be given to individuals with Microsoft Office Specialist certification.
* Advanced Data Analytics - This course expands on topics covered in the introductory data analytics class. Much data used by organizations comes from structured storage solutions such as corporate databases. Students learn database data extraction using Structured Query Language (SQL) as well as additional important aspects of working with data such as data cleaning and data wrangling. The course will also examine the most prevalent issues confronting data quality and explore the common approaches and tools for resolving them. Advanced data analytics methods, such as advanced decision trees, naive Bayes, k-nearest neighbors, and neural networks will also be explored. Data mining and visualization tasks will be performed using open source tools.
Along with demonstrated ability for excellent teaching, candidates must hold an earned graduate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in a relevant discipline, with 18 completed semester hours of related graduate course work or an MBA and related professional experience. Official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.

The Luter School of Business at CNU is composed of 24 faculty and offers four majors (Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing). The Luter School's AACSB accredited business curriculum requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for entry and attracts some of the University's best students. Bach To Rock (“B2R”) VA.Beach America's Music School for students of all ages is currently seeking an Early Education Music Teacher to work as a PART-TIME employee providing music classes to young children.
Early Childhood Teachers at Bach to Rock create a fun, educational, and safe environment for children to explore the world of music. This job is a perfect fit for patient musicians with a flair for drama that enjoy playing music games, reading stories, and inspiring young children.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead B2R's early childhood classes (Rock n Roll, Rock City, and/or Kids n Keys)
Prepare for and deliver instruction using the Bach to Rock detailed lesson plans and activities
Create a warm and welcoming class environment in which young children can feel safe
Use the recommendations in the B2R curriculum to encourage and educate caregivers that attend class with their toddlers
May be asked to assist at B2R events
Requirements:
Must have a background in the arts (theater, art, music, etc...)
Must feel comfortable in an active and noisy setting
Effective time management and organizational skills to keep a group of students engaged
Comfortable working and adapting quickly in a fast-paced environment with a variety of personalities
Must demonstrate an understanding of basic music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts in a developmentally appropriate and age-appropriate manner with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Ability to interact effectively with both children and adults
Must play a musical instrument - piano, keys, or guitar preferred
Must be able to sing a cappella (unaccompanied)
Must demonstrate the ability to run basic sound equipment and computers
Ability to pass a background check
