Summary
MSOE invites applications for a full-time Counselor to join our Counseling Services team. Under the direction of the Director of Counseling Services, the Counselor's role is to provide mental health treatment (including assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention) for student clients at MSOE. Additionally, the Counselor is expected to organize and facilitate psychoeducational programming and outreach opportunities that support students' personal concerns that may impact their academic performance. The Counselor is expected to provide outreach to campus departments and/or colleagues to educate and inform the MSOE community of mental health trends and concerns. Counselors will be required to stay current with the latest trends and interventions in mental health treatment that specifically relate to the university environment.
Essential Job Functions
* Conduct basic biopsychosocial assessment, incorporating screening for a variety of mental health concerns (including depression, anxiety, AODA, autism spectrum, ADHD, eating disorders, trauma, etc.) when appropriate
* Develop and evaluate individualized treatment plans based on individual client's concerns and goals
* Consult with fellow Counseling Services staff and other colleagues, when appropriate, in the ongoing treatment of clients
* Consult with clients' outside mental health providers (psychiatrists, etc.) when needed
* Provide crisis intervention for clients with suicidal and/or violent ideation and intent
* Monitor follow-up care for clients who are hospitalized and ensure adherence to university protocol

* Participate in external committees, task forces, etc. to improve overall culture on mental health at the university
* Manage relationships with current outpatient providers in Resource Guide, and establish new relationships, to provide clients with referrals for trusted outpatient care should MSOE no longer be able to support the client's needs
* Provide case management services to clients who are referred to community providers and/or who do not want to be seen at MSOE Counseling Services but still require care
* Provide trainings for resident assistants, first-year students, etc. as needed
* Assist in training of graduate-level practicum students and interns

Residential Treatment Centers for Correctional Clients operate 24 hours per day with on-duty staff for our clients. Staff monitor client behaviors and whereabouts in the community and enforce program rules and accountability. Substance abuse counseling, cognitive-based programming and correctional case management are provided in an intensive setting. Clients can be granted gradual re-entry into the community based on earned privileges. This is a part-time direct service position in a Madison-area Residential Services Program. AODA programming must be delivered secularly free of religious components, following the agency-prescribed curriculum.
The person in this position is responsible for providing group AODA treatment, Co-Occurring Disorders interventions, Anger Management groups, Healthy Relationships groups, Trauma-Informed Care (Seeking Safety group), and individual AODA treatment to adult correctional clients who are enrolled in the ACS Residential Services Program. Prior experience working with children or youth in a camp, school, or recreation setting preferred.
Current CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and AED certifications (can be obtained during staff training). Lifeguard Deep Water certification required (training available).
