Purchases and distributes supplies and manages inventory; works with vendors, verifies deliveries and services, and resolves customer service and technical issues.
Provides informed and confidential technical assistance to customers and others having business with the City; assists customers with requests, applications, and other documents; retrieves and releases information according to City procedures; explains City rules, policies, and procedures.
Arranges and schedules appointments and meetings; assists with the annual budget process.
Screens visitors and phone callers; resolves issues and complaints as appropriate.
Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED required; AND two years' experience as an Administrative Assistant.
Associate's degree and experience with City of Odessa is preferred.

The Opportunity We are currently looking for a Signalling/Electrical Trades Assistant to join our Signalling Projects Team on a 2year Fixed Term Contract. Reporting to the Civil Leading Hand, you will be responsible for operating a variety of mobile plant machines in and around our Rail Network for the safe installation of Signalling Civil Installations. The Role In this role you will be part of a team responsible for carrying out the civil installation of wayside signalling equipment and mainline pit and pipe across our metro and regional network. The role is offered on a Monday-to-Monday roster, 8days on, 6 days off, based out of our Midland Depot. Key Responsibilities for the role include:
Having an active role with morning safety prestart discussions
Assist with the daily site preparation and care of all site plant
Assist with setting out the planned cable route
Assist with delivery of materials to site
Assist with the laying out of materials for the cable route
Assist with the preparation of the excavation for the pit and pipe installation
Assist with the installation of the pit and pipe
Assist with the installation of danger tapes and backfill of the excavation
Assist with the installation of cable route markers and as built measurements
Other tasks the incumbent may be required to undertake:
Assist the project electrical team install cables
Assist the project electrical team in the installation of solar equipment
Assist with signalling civil works which may encompass installation of; location cases; location and signalling precast foundations; local pit and pipe to various trackside signalling equipment; location counterpoise earth mats; concrete pours for location surrounds and solar mast foundations
