What: Fundraiser that celebrates the founding of the Onondaga Historical Association and President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, which both happened in 1863.

Edited important atlas of Onondaga County in 1874 and produced a major map of the Adirondacks.

The first state meeting, which attracted fifty members, was held in Syracuse on September 30 and October 1, 1897.

Through the efforts of Selena Sloan Butler, the National Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers was founded in 1926 at a time when segregated schools were mandated in the southern United States.

The Loretto Guild is formed in 1946 by a group of civicminded women dedicated to enhancing the lives of the residents through their volunteer efforts and financial support.

In 1970, with the merger of the National PTA and the National Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers, PTA became a unified association of persons interested in the well-being of children regardless of differences.

In 1976, Loretto was restructured to become a private, charitable, not-forprofit organization and expanded its services.

In 1988, The Nottingham opens, offering a continuum of care services, a unique concept for its time, enabling residents to “age in place.”

In 1992, the original Loretto Rest was transformed into the first residential living facility for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, to fill a significant gap in available assisted living care.

In 1997, Loretto introduced PACE CNY, a program of all-inclusive care for the elderly, and an innovative alternative to skilled nursing care.
