On June 13, 1877, the Omaha City Council appointed a library board, levied a tax, and accepted a gift of 4,500 books from the disbanded association.

There’s no explanation for why the library opened in the back of the store in 1905, but it seems logical.
Moving to a new location at North 30th and Redick Avenue in 1921, the North Branch of the Omaha Public Library was established in their old building the same year.
In 1931, this building was declared inadequate and another one was built.
The old church building was replaced by a newly built library building in 1938 at 29th and Ames Ave.
In 1944, he was hired by City Recreation director George Vanous and managed softball and baseball teams in the city.
In 1977, the main branch of the library moved from Harney Street to a modern new construction of Bedford limestone, occupying 124,500 square feet of space across from Gene Leahy Mall Park at 14th and Farnam Streets.
A new central library called the W. Dale Clark Library opened at 14th and Farnam Streets in 1977 across from the Gene Leahy Mall.
Omaha Library Board President Eileen Wirth announced plans to establish the foundation immediately after she was elected president in 1984.
The Omaha Public Library Foundation was founded in 1985 to raise $1 million to computerize library circulation and to underwrite other major projects that city funding would not cover.
The branch was renamed as a tribute to Charles B. Washington in 1986.
