Position Summary
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides compassionate, hands-on care to patients in a fast-paced trauma and neuro-rehabilitation environment. You will play a key role in supporting patient dignity, comfort, and recovery through daily care routines and team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with AM/PM care: bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, toileting, dressing, and other personal care needs
Maintain a clean and safe patient environment: change bed linens, tidy bedside areas, and restock supplies
Ensure patient comfort by adjusting beds, providing pillows or blankets, and attending to hydration needs
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to support optimal patient outcomes

Job Description
General Summary
Under the direction of professional nursing staff, provides direct patient care. Takes vital signs, checks surgical dressings, aids patient's with activities of daily living. This role performs blood draws and collects specimen samples. Observes and collects data and communicates about the patient's status in order to identify needs and provides needed care. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care services team.

Performs testing and manages the care of the patient based on results achieved and clinical findings.

Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patients.

Participates in hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the health care team.
Responds to patient triggered alarms, including call light, chair alarm, bed alarm, tele-sitter alarm, etc.
Complies with the The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals within scope of practice.
Detects, reports, and acts to avoid or correct safety risks. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) required.
No previous experience required; previous direct patient care experience in a health care facility preferred.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Able to effectively communicate using verbal and written skills.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the RN provides age-appropriate care. As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) at US Renal Care, you will be an integral part of a cross-functional team providing care and delegated activities of treatment to patients. The PCT will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Charge Nurse (CN) for patients with renal failure.
What you'll be doing
Patient care. You will work directly with patients to provide safe, comfortable, and high-quality dialysis treatment. Responsibilities include gathering patient stats before and after treatment, initiating treatment, monitoring patients during treatment, terminating treatment, and collecting patient blood samples per physician orders.
Technician Duties. You will ensure quality comes first by preparing machines for hemodialysis treatments, cleaning and disinfecting machines after treatment, and conducting machine safety checks and logging results for quality control, ensuring all protocols and regulations are followed.
Safety and Quality. You will use appropriate safety measures, including personal protective equipment. Working under the supervision of a Charge Nurse, you will adhere to all company policies, procedures, and state/federal laws and regulations. You will participate in all required staff meetings and continuing education offerings.

* Must routinely perform the UPMC core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients. PLUS point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs). In addition, must perform simple dressings, placement and removal of restraints, bladder scan, all specimen collections, peripheral IV catheter removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal phlebotomy/venipuncture, and ticket to ride. All standard competencies must be achieved.
* Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status. Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN. May apply, monitor and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol.
* Constructively receives feedback and direction. Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director. Takes action to improve knowledge, skills and performance. Request's assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed. Participates in self-review as requested by the unit director. Participates in project and committee work.
* Suggests and supports changes within the department. Assumes responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges. Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department. Supports department-based projects and quality initiatives. Strictly adheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care and hospital related information. Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions. Documents in the medical record according to established procedures. Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner. Transports cardiac monitored patients within the hospital setting. Completes department clerical functions as needed.

* In addition to the standard required competencies, the Patient Care Technician - Senior will achieve and maintain competency and/or perform at least 1 or more of the following advanced skills based on department operational need: basic arrythmia, complex wound care, 12 lead EKG, and NG tubes clamping and removal.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Enrollment in a Nursing Program with: 2 years of healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician title OR 1 year of healthcare experience and completion of at least one clinical rotation OR successful completion of UPMC Student Nurse Internship program.
* Successful completion of basic information system training.
* Microcomputer experience preferred.
* Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
* Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
* May require successful completion of the appropriate UPMC cardiac rhythm course as determined by organizational guidelines and unit-based clinical operations.
* May, in the course of their duties, be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients.
* Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire; ACLS preferred
* Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
* Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
* Act 33 with renewal
* Act 34 with renewal
* Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
