Provide care and close supervision of patients. Document patient behaviors provide crisis intervention as necessary and implement individualized treatment plans while following Billings Clinic policies and procedures. Work as part of the interdisciplinary team and assist in maintaining a safe environment for both patients and staff.
Essential Job Functions
* Ensure that patients and their environment are safe. Complete patient and environmental safety observations on assigned unit. Attentive to possible issues on the unit due to escalating behaviors or environmental factors and report concerns to Charge nurse.
* Provide patientcare and assist with ADLs as needed such as personal hygiene, toileting, bathing, transferring, and eating. Daily task assignments may include height, weight, vital signs and obtaining blood glucose levels. Document the care provided in a timely and accurate manner per Billings Clinic guidelines.
* Communicate effectively and provide age appropriate care to adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
* Demonstrate appropriate judgment and emotional stability when encountering stressful and non-stressful situations. Exhibit calm demeanor when de-escalating patients. Implement crisis prevention and de-escalation approved techniques beginning with least restrictive intervention followed with more restrictive interventions as necessary. May include lifting, bending or holding to assist patients.
* Facilitate and supervise patient groups of an educational or supportive purpose. Encourage patient participation in milieu activities and plan of care.
* Demonstrate accurate and timely documentation for all patientcare provided through completion of applicable charting.
* Assist with admissions by checking in patient belongings and gathering their belongings upon discharge.
* Maintains a safe and clean environment for patients and staff members.
* Maintains confidentiality and acts in accordance with HIPPA policy and procedure.
* Performs routine clerical work including filing, chart maintenance, paperwork coordination and effectively using the phone system.

Your day.
As a EMT Ground Transport, you need to know how to:
Obtains patients vital signs to include blood pressure, pulse and temperature and understands normal ranges and changes. Informs RNs or Physician of changes in vital signs
Works with EMT or Paramedic partner to provide safe transport of patients between hospital and receiving facility.
Effective interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication
Conducts an inspection of ambulance and equipment at the beginning of each shift to ensure ability to care for patients
Establishes and maintains effective radio communication with HELP Flight dispatch and other agencies
Initiates department standing orders in appropriate patients. Performs basic airway techniques including oxygen therapy.
Participates in HELP Flight Safety committee
Able to load and unload ambulance stretcher with one person assist
Completes an initial assessment of the patient and documents in the EMR.
Initiates needed interventions to support safe patient transport
Provides safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: High school graduate and must be currently certified in the state of MT as a CNA. Must have a valid driver's license.
SKILLS: Listening and speaking skills; legible penmanship; interpersonal communication skills in working with the public, doctors and various other departments. Empathy and ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with all types of patients. Computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft software including Word, Excel and Outlook.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is indoors in an office environment with moderate noise. Intermittent physical effort involving lifting of up to 25 pounds, walking and stooping is required. A typical workday involves sitting, frequent use of a keyboard, reaching with hands and arms, and talking and hearing, approximately 70% of the time. Approximately 30% or less of the time is spent standing. Normal vision abilities required, including close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Under the direction and supervision of the physician and in accordance with the authorized scope of practice for the level, assists in the delivery of patientcare. Works collaboratively with the health care team including nursing staff and other health care providers to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational and spiritual needs of the patient and family.
Essential Job Functions
* Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision, values and philosophy of Billings Clinic and the Emergency Department. Functions within the core competencies and "Minimum Specifications" set forth by the organization.
* Responds in a timely, pleasant, efficient manner to the ED phone lines, using PSE guidelines; able to transfer calls. Adheres to confidentiality (HIPPA) and patient right requirements.
* Pleasantly greets patient upon entering ED (waiting room) and directs to next available triage room, if Chief complaint is emergent will immediately notify Triage Nurse. Obtains and/or records vital signs, including height and weight and places on white board for RN charts and documents in patients record according to documentation guidelines. Collects laboratory specimens as needed. Performs Point of Care (POC) laboratory testing (glucometer) as listed in the job description.
* Performs basic patientcare, treatments, and documentation approved by the Physician or delegated by RN.
* Assists patient's activities during ED care, such as showers, ambulating and turning, crutches, walkers, wheelchair or stretchers, transfers and assists with patient transports within the ED & facility.
* Obtains and records vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and pulse oximetry using manual & automatic technology. Additionally performs postural vital signs, obtains weights & heights, visual acuities, and specific POC testing (i.e. precision Glucometer).
* Measures, records, and provides, for patient: intake of food and fluid which includes partial and total assistance with feedings; output from bodily functions/specified drainage devices and collects specimens as directed by the physician. Works collaboratively within the ED patientcare team
* Reports changes in patient condition, patient needs, and patient/visitor problems to the ED Physician AND Primary Nurse/or ED Charge Nurse.
* Documents all care provided utilizing appropriate ED documentation-CERNER FirstNet and/or ED paper chart guidelines.
* Assists in preparing wounds for suturing, i.e., cleansing and irrigation of the wound and setting up of all equipment (including sterile supplies) for suture procedure.
* Performs EKGs as required and places patients on cardiac monitors.
* Assists in preparing patient for MD exam, Patients need to be changed into a gown for assessment (i.e., assisting patient to undress, providing warm blankets, ice, extremity elevations, etc.)
* Assists Diagnostic Imaging Tech with X-ray procedures as needed, as well as assisting in transfer of patients to CT or US.
* Assists in the safety search of designated patient(s) as needed. (Following safety search policy)
* Institutes seizure precautions when applicable
* Assists MD/RN with gastric lavage as directed (ED only).
* Assists ED physician/RN as needed with tasks such as providing supplies and equipment.
* Responds to patient call lights and reports patient requests to MD/RN caring for patient.
* Completes documentation following patient disposition, i.e. admission and discharge and transfer.
* Sets up initial IV fluid bag including priming tubing adhering to aseptic technique at the specific request of the MD/RN
* Establishes peripheral IV line upon MD's request. Applicable to PCT II (with EMT) & III only. Discontinues peripheral IV lines upon MD request per education requirements Applicable to PCT II (with EMT) & III.
* May establish ultrasound IV's after class/competency completion (level II (with EMT) & Level III only.)
* If trained/competent in I/O may insert under request/supervision of ED physician. (level II (with EMT) & Level III only.)
* Maintains clean patient environment by assisting in the cleaning and maintenance of the waiting room, patient rooms and the ED unit. Performs linen changes for occupied beds while maintaining proper patient body alignment and comfort.
* Knowledge and competence in all equipment cleaning
* Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment
* Is versed in aseptic and sterile technique
* Visual acuity's
* Performs phlebotomy procedures per established ED and laboratory guidelines for collection and processing of specimens.
* Applies and removes restraints according to Billings Clinic policy.
* Assists with ambulance/helicopter/flight transfers into the ED. Is knowledgeable in admission, transfer and discharge of patient (including equipment) intra-facility and EMTALA/HIPPA regulations.
* Understands system for disaster callbacks of ED staff and Emergency/Kardex notebook. Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action. Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly environment for patient and visitors. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance. Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action
* Has well developed computer skills with ability to document in The FirstNet CERNER program. Able to use Outlook for sending and receiving E-mail communication. ~it is the employees responsibility to document all cares (i.e. IVs, ambulation, vitals, etc) and patient contact they perform. As well as checking organizational email.
* Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of patientcare.
* Takes responsibility for identifying own development needs; meets all system and departmental educational requirements. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
* Refers more difficult problems to the MD, RN, , PCT II and/or III

Minimum Qualifications
Education
* High school graduate or equivalent
* Medical training as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Certified Assistant (MA), EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic
Experience
* Six-(6) months work experience as a CNA/EMT or other health related field performing patientcare in a health care facility, preferably an acute care hospital, and/or pre-hospital setting or formal college coursework relating to health field or combination of education and experience.
* One (1) year work experience as an EMT/PCT with IV endorsement/AEMT or Medical Assistant performing patientcare in a health care facility, preferably an acute care hospital and/or pre-hospital setting. Required to develop proficiency in EMT/AEMT/MA procedures and processes encompassing all age groups. (Level II)
* Or CNA w/ one (1) or more years' experience in the ED that has completed leveling program to obtain level II
Certifications and Licenses
* Current Montana license as Certified Nurse Assistant and/or EMT certification or college training in a health-related field.
* EMT certification with IV endorsement (Level II)
* CPR Certification BLS for infant, child and adult upon hire (ACLS for Level III)
* Must successfully pass Billings Clinic phlebotomy training upon of hire.

Surgical Technologists perform various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Tech will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.

The Surgical Technologist has a pathway opportunity identified for advancement to Surgical Technologist levels II or III.
**Job Essentials**

**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Active National Certification as an OR Tech in Surgery or Certified Surgical Technologist. Certification is expected within the timeframe outlined below.
+ Certification is required after hire as follows:
+ Surgical Technologists who graduated from an accredited program must certify within one year of hire (may use either NBSTSA or NCCT certification).
+ Surgical Technologists who have graduated from non-accredited programs or completed on-the-job or military training, need to certify as soon as possible. This can be done upon graduation or, according to the NCCT requirements, take beyond one year in order to meet worked hours (>6000) and case tracking requirements. Managers will need to meet with new hires and determine certification course, projected certification window, and track progress.
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
