Responsibilties:
A day in the life of a Telemetry Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Properly prepares, places and maintains telemetry monitoring on patients as ordered including orienting patients to the telemetry system.
Properly identifies each cardiac rhythm, and obtains and mounts the arrhythmia strips and trends with label and interpretation
Reports cardiac rhythm changes to primary nurse and/or charge nurse. Reviews alarms with interdisciplinary team including, but not limited
to MDs, nursing staff, and therapies. Demonstrates effective communication skills when dealing with patients, families and colleagues
Maintains accurate and current Admission/Discharge Sheet, Telemetry Report Sheet, and EKG Log.
Gives report to oncoming Telemetry Tech. Communicates with Charge Nurse, Primary Nurse and Transport when patient requires the telemetry monitoring system to be put on or taken off.
Precepts and orients new Telemetry Techs as needed. Answer phones and any other administrative task deemed necessary by the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse
Maintains adequate stock and supplies. Maintains cleanliness of telemetry equipment including telemetry transmitter. Maintains accurate and current maintenance log.
Reports malfunction of equipment to charge nurse/biomed.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications:
High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
Successful completion of a cardiac rhythm course within 3 months of hire.
Documentation of successful training as a monitor technician or equivalent experience.

The Health CareTechnician II serves as a role model and mentor to other HCT I's throughout the facility and provides quality care to patients on 1 Oak. The Adolescent Unit is a co-ed, inpatient unit serving individuals from the ages of 12-17. The objective of the adolescent unit is to provide a safe and structured environment for crisis stabilization. As an essential member of a multidisciplinary care team, the HCT II practices therapeutic principles when providing care to the patients they serve. Maintains the phlebotomy supply room in a sanitary condition and free of floor clutter. Stock the shelves in a manner that older supplies get used first.
Responsible for the safety of the pager and handheld equipment assigned to each phlebotomist even when not in use by storing in assigned lockers and not in the phlebotomy cart.
Labels the sharp collectors, prepares them for discard when ¾ full and brings them down to the Central Service department for disposal.
Collects the medical waste from the various laboratory sections; labels, weighs and logs them as required.
Stores the phlebotomy cart according to the numerical arrangement in the assigned storage room at the end of the shift.
Answer phone calls received in the laboratory.
Receive all drop-off specimens in timely manner
Place specimen tubes in the centrifuge while processing in Paragon.
Deliver STAT specimens to the processing area alerting Med tech.
