March 1, 1959 -- After a decade of dramatically increasing demand, land was acquired from the Mariners' Museum and plans were finalized to build a $7 million hospital on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard.
July, 1960 -- Bulldozers began clearing land for the 323-bed hospital.
1966 -- With completion of a 63-bed expansion to the East Wing, capacity reached 460.
1979 -- The renovated Emergency/Trau ma Center opens.
1983 -- Lake Taylor City Hospital in Norfolk came under management contract, providing the association with ownership or management of more than 1,000 long-term care beds.
1985 -- Opening in February, the $7.5 million Patrick Henry Hospital became the Patrick Henry Healthcare Center.
1987 -- The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center opened.
1989 -- Tidewater Memorial Hospital in Tappahannock was acquired and renamed Riverside Tappahannock Hospital.
