    The Payroll Coordinator will be responsible for the entry, processing, maintenance and reporting of corporate payroll information to compensate employees and facilitate responsible decision-making by the District's stakeholders. The Payroll Coordinator is also responsible for researching a wide variety of payroll issues, analyzing and interpreting information and accounting for payroll items in the District's financial records. The incumbent will assist the department supervisor in implementing corporate directives and will be a corporate resource on payroll issues, policies and practices. 1. The Payroll Coordinator performs payroll related functions for the district. This includes the processing of payroll, researching & answering payroll questions, accounting entries and completing any other tasks for the districts payroll process. - Support the preparation of timely, accurate and complete financial records and information of the District and its related Trusts to facilitate responsible decision-making by all stakeholders. - Ensure employees receive compensation based on approved policies. - Effective use and application of OPPD's PeopleSoft Payroll System. Including but not limited to payroll processing, time reporting, absence processing, data inquiry, reconciliations, internal controls, reporting and system functional testing. - Ensure OPPD complies with appropriate tax guidelines and regulations. - Ensure OPPD complies with labor contracts and government regulations related to payroll. - Perform Payroll accounting functions. These functions include distributing payroll, performing journals necessary to payroll, processing vouchers and account reconciliations. - Communicate effectively with managers, supervisors, peers, Information Technology and Human Resources to record accurate Payroll data and implement efficient process changes. - Performs special projects assigned by management. As a Payroll Specialist, you'll play a key role in maintaining a smooth and efficient payroll system, contributing to the success of our operations and directly supporting our commitment to our employees. This full-time position reports to the Compensation and Benefits Manager and offers a typical work schedule from Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Position Duties: Maintains various payroll records such as timecard sheets, automatic bank deposit authorizations, payroll journals, and ledgers; makes required adjustments through established procedures. Prepares salary and wage payrolls including deductions, accruals and the issuance and processing of timecards. Monitors the account distribution of salary and wage payments including correcting prior distributions. Balances or reconciles assigned payroll records; resolves and adjusts discrepancies; analyzes computer reports to identify and locate sources of error. Gathers and analyzes payroll data; makes recommendations and prepares various payroll reports to be submitted to the Payroll Manager. Consults with management and staff to discuss, salary and wage problems such as improper deductions and accruals; refers more difficult problems or those requiring decision-making outside of limits to the Payroll Manager. Makes and checks routine arithmetic calculations; posts figures and enters data on appropriate payroll documents and/or enters data in the computer system. Interprets, explains and recommends changes to rules and regulations as they relate to payroll. Responds to queries from outside agencies such as financial or credit organizations. Hires in new employees through HRIS system and is a first contact for new employees. Executes other key tasks including: ensuring court-ordered wage withholding documents are submitted to our processing vendor timely, maintaining electronic employee personnel files, and reaching out to new hires.
