Pinecrest Schools company history timeline

1939

In 1939, she moved her 100 students to an eight-acre site on East Broward Boulevard.

1948

In 1948, Edna Mae Dye came to California from Iowa with her husband, George, and three sons, Robert, Philip, and Don.

1954

In 1954, Bobby Troop, an actor and songwriter, wrote the Pinecrest song.

1955

Opened in 1955 in Sanford, Florida, Pine Crest Elementary currently serves approximately 700 students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.

1957

In 1957, the second Pinecrest campus was opened on Devonshire Street in Northridge.

1960

In the 1960?s, campuses in Panorama City, Tarzana, and Sherman Oaks were operated by Pinecrest.

1961

1961, the third campus was opened in Woodland Hills.

1970

Since then, these properties were sold in order to expand in some of the upcoming communities developed in the early 1970?s.

1985

In 1985, the seventh school was opened in Northridge on White Oak and Roscoe Boulevards.

1988

At that time, William J. McMillan '45, the founder's son, became headmaster and served in that capacity until 1988, when Lourdes M. Cowgill was invested as Headmistress and Mr.

1995

McMillan as President on September 1, 1995.

2000

In 2000, the Moorpark campus was opened in Ventura County.

The boarding program continued until the end of the 2000-01 school year when Pine Crest transitioned to a day school.

2011

The Board of Trustees appointed Doctor Dana Markham as acting president in May 2011, and, in December 2011, she became the fifth president of Pine Crest School.

2012

The Pinecrest Schools are fully accredited through the National Independent Private School Association (NIPSA) through 2012.

2019

Pine Crest School's 2019-24 Strategic Plan defines the Pine Crest graduate of the future as a competitive participant in the global economy.
