Providence Christian Academy, Inc. company history timeline

1994

Sheila Given conceived of creating a new non-denominational Christian school in the Murfreesboro area in the spring of 1994 while she was in a Bible study.

1995

The result was that in August of 1995, Providence Christian School opened with 56 students.

Since a fundamental principle of the school was that the families involved would give primary leadership to providing school funding, it seemed that a fall 1995 start-up would be unlikely.

1996

In August 1996, a community-wide meeting was held which attracted more than ninety adults desiring a new, free-standing, inter-denominational Christian school committed to academic excellence in Murfreesboro.

Established in 1996, Providence Christian Academy is an academically advanced, inter-denominational classical Christian school without affiliation to any one church body.

1997

First housed in Believers Chapel Church, the school opened its doors in August 1997, serving students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

In 1997, 10 acres of land and a horse stable were donated by the Northsprings Development Group.

1998

As the demand for classical Christian education grew, in 1998 Providence added a primary school (K-6th) to the existing upper school (7th-12th.) Providence developed its classical curriculum under the direction of the board members and the headmaster of eight years, Laura Dickmann.

In 1998, the school purchased an equestrian facility and remodeled it to house the school.

2002

In 2002, the PCA Board of Directors determined that there was significant interest within the school community to undertake a $2.5 million building project.

2004

The original building project was successfully completed in September of 2004.

The school opened a new building in September 2004.

2009

In 2009, Providence purchased 11 acres located behind the current site that has been developed into the Lamar Lussi Athletic Complex complete with a multipurpose soccer/football field, track, six tennis courts and a softball field.

2010

In May of 2010, PCA held an inaugural graduation ceremony for its first group of seniors.

In 2010, the boys’ soccer team won the state championship and made Providence the first 1B school ever to win the 1B/2B state title! In recent years, the boys’ soccer team, boys’ basketball team, and girls’ volleyball team regularly compete in the district and state tournaments.

2011

In February of 2011, PCA became fully accredited by SACS, Southern Association of Colleges and School.

2012

In 2012, the PCA Board of Directors voted to move forward with developing plans for a second building project.

2013

God continued to bless the growth of Providence, and in 2013, space was so tight that the pre-k class met off-site in a local church.

In 2013, PCA expanded once again, opening a new elementary school wing.

2014

The building project was complete in July 2014.

2017

Providence completed interior construction and opened its doors to students to begin the 2017-18 academic year.

2019

Our school colors and mascot were voted on by the Class of 2019, the first senior class of PCA.
