The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the plant-wide quality function to ensure Deckorators products consistently meet internal specifications, ICC-ES requirements, and industry standards. This role oversees inspections, testing, documentation, and corrective-action activities across all stages of extrusion, cutting, assembly, packaging, and shipping.
The Quality Manager will partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Process, and Corporate Quality to drive continuous improvement, strengthen quality culture, reduce defects, and advance the technical performance of our flagship Surestone operation.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Establish, maintain, and enforce plant quality systems, testing requirements, and inspection standards aligned with ICC-ES and Deckorators specifications.
Oversee quality checks throughout the manufacturing process including raw material receiving, extrusion, cutting, assembly, packaging, storage, and shipping.
Interpret drawings, specifications, tolerances, and test criteria and ensure all operations remain within acceptable limits.
Stop production and escalate immediately upon detection of non-conformance to prevent quality escapes.
Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues or customer complaints.
Maintain accurate documentation of inspection results, test data, quality logs, and compliance records.
Support Engineering and Process teams in qualification of new materials, product trials, capability studies, and continuous-improvement projects.
Prepare and manage quality dashboards, reports, audit summaries, and compliance documentation for plant and corporate leadership.
Train production teams on measurement techniques, quality standards, and proper documentation practices.
Support and participate in internal audits, regulatory reviews, and corporate quality system assessments.
Promote a strong quality culture throughout the plant, driving engagement and accountability at all levels.
Perform other duties as required to support quality and plant performance.
Qualifications
High school diploma/GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in Quality, Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in quality assurance or manufacturing operations; extrusion or polymer experience preferred.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, measurement tools, and inspection requirements.
Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
Proficient with measuring devices: tape measure to 1/32”, calipers, micrometers, gauges.
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Working knowledge of ICC-ES requirements or ability to learn quickly.
Experience with SPC, CAPA, root-cause analysis, or other quality tools preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age.

This role involves developing and implementing quality systems, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet customer and regulatory requirements. This role actively monitors production quality, conducts root cause analysis for non-conformances, and implements corrective actions. The Quality Engineer will also play a key role in continuous improvement projects, supplier quality management, and ensuring adherence to industry specifications and customer expectations. This position requires a strong ability to interpret complex specifications, identify and resolve quality issues, and foster a collaborative environment to drive quality requirements and continuous improvement. The Quality Engineer will be instrumental in maintaining compliance with quality standards and delivering superior products.
Job Duties:
* Create and distribute Job Instruction Note Drawing (JIND).
* Create, maintain, and distribute Quality Inspection & Test Plan (ITP).
* Record, monitor, and respond to customer complaints related to quality.
* Support internal and external audits to ensure compliance with QMS and regulatory standards.
* Collaborate with Engineering to ensure quality requirements and processes.
* Lead and document root cause analysis (RCA) for major customer quality issues.
* Create, maintain, and distribute Quality Databooks (product history manual).
* Resolve customer complaints and requests in relation to customer quality requirements.
* Conduct first article inspections (FAI), and final inspections.
* Serve as primary contact for customer quality inquiries, audits, and meetings.
* Facilitate and escort customer and regulatory inspectors during visits.
Key Results Areas by level of work:
Ensure Production Quality and Efficiency. Utilize appropriate tools and equipment, and qualify to perform special processes as needed. This includes:
* Reviewing and comprehending complex specifications and industry codes.
* Identifying order-specific manufacturing, material, general quality, and nondestructive examination (NDE) requirements.
* Communicating professionally in writing with applications, project engineering, and/or customers to clarify requirements.
* Preparing Quality Inspection Plans to meet customer requirements.
* Identifying and submitting required documentation for customer review.
Manage Resources, Output, and Reporting:
* Provide program support to manufacturing, quality, engineering, and applications engineering.
* Follow and adhere to quality management system procedures.
* Communicate daily with shop staff, QA/QC, and engineering regarding activity requirements.
Drive Continuous Improvement
* Participate in non-conformance reviews, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Participate in customer meetings, and facilitate and escort customer inspectors.
* Identify areas with other functional leaders, employees, and customers to develop significant lean opportunities for improvement throughout manufacturing.
* Provide support to ensure products are manufactured in accordance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.

Education and Training

Experience:

* 5 years of on the job experience in lieu of formal education.
