Reliable Contracting company history timeline

1928

In 1928, brothers Bill and Frank Baldwin purchased a used dump truck and began a hauling business.

1942

Adding a few more dump trucks, a bulldozer and a few employees, Reliable Contracting incorporated in 1942.

1950

In 1950, after graduating from Cornell University, Tom Baldwin purchased his father Frank’s share of Reliable Contracting and the company was back in business.

1955

The Barber-Greene finisher was used prominently until the patent ran out, in 1955.

1986

The trend towards continuous improvement has continued into the current day, with the establishment of the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) in 1986 and the development of advanced pavement materials that are used on today’s roads.

2002

Tom Baldwin was president of Reliable for 52 years until handing the reins over to his son Jay Baldwin in 2002.

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) first introduced warm-mix asphalt (WMA) to the United States in 2002 after WMA grew in popularity in Europe.
