Reporting to the Assistant Director of Business Operations in Schmid College, the Research Grants Analyst works with principal investigators, faculty, and staff to coordinate pre- and post-award activities for grants and/or contracts. Schmid College facilitates research across the natural sciences with awards from a diversity of federal agencies. Schmid is part of the growing success of Chapman University, which recently achieved R2 status in 2019 by Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. This places the university in the top 10% of research universities in the country. More importantly, it means a growing profile of basic and applied research with international reach. After the training period, this position will allow a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities
Pre-Award and Proposal Development Support Assist PIs and faculty in the preparation of budgets for grant proposals. Train and assist with grant proposal preparation in research administration systems such as Cayuse. Assist with other aspects of grant proposal preparation and in coordination with the Office of Research and the Associate Dean for Research and Development . Research, identify and notify the school of grant funding opportunities, and meet with faculty regularly to review pending proposals. Assist PIs in preparation of funding proposals for foundations in coordination with the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Grant Award Management and Post-Award Monitor, prepare, and provide guidance on monthly budget status/expenditure/projections to faculty. Interpret, monitor, and maintain current knowledge of grant funding policies, regulations, and procedures, and comply with the funding agency's requirements and the university's fiscal policies. Monitor and prepare monthly budget status/expenditure and projection reports for PIs. Provide guidance to PIs on appropriate spending, forecast potential projection issues, and recommend courses of action. Work closely with university departments to reconcile and resolve budgetary matters. Facilitate hiring personnel, extra pay, academic year effort, and course releases. Prepare, submit, and track administrative paperwork for research-funded positions alongside HR and operations. Assist PIs with establishing and maintaining subawards and subcontracts. Serve as liaison between Schmid, Office of Research, and various University departments on communications relating to award activities training, and maintain records to support review of PI effort reports. Keep track of cost sharing. Assist with award close-out and report potential variances.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Demonstrated ability to employ effective problem-solving in multiple contexts, assess options, and formulate solutions Strong analytical skills to analyze reports and spreadsheets and resolve discrepancies. Outstanding time management skills and the ability to complete multiple assignments with fluctuating deadlines in a timely manner. Ability to obtain data from various sources and organize it in relevant infographics, charts, and tables. Strong computer skills specifically: Excel, Word, Outlook, Zoom and Teams. Technical skills to quickly learn and use enterprise systems and new software including cloud-based applications. Strong writing and editing skills to prepare and proofread clear, concise, and grammatically correct business correspondence, reports, and publications and communicate complex information. Strong organizational skills to plan and prioritize deadlines and perform multiple tasks without constant direct supervision, and sharp attention to detail. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both within and outside of the university. POSITION DESCRIPTION
PIMCO is seeking a Municipal Credit ResearchAnalyst to support the firm's growth of tax-exempt assets under management. This opportunity is based in Newport Beach, CA where the Analyst will sit in a dynamic environment alongside Portfolio Managers and other tax-exempt and corporate credit Analysts. Although this position is specific to the Municipal business, you'll be part of the firm's global research team and will interact frequently with cross-asset Portfolio Managers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assume coverage and responsibility for one or more defined sectors within U.S. public finance with a concentration on HY asset classes
Build financial projections with a focus on debt sustainability and develop independent credit opinions for related coverage field Analyze political conditions and the impact on credit fundamentals
Report and analyze potential changes in the tax policies and accounting treatment of municipal issuers
Provide detailed investment recommendations to tax-exempt and taxable portfolio managers
Proactively develop and communicate investment ideas with portfolio managers

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Must have 5-15 years of relevant Public Finance credit analysis experience. Budget, credit or finance work at a buy side/sell side firm, federal agency, major state or municipal treasurer office required
Strong prior experience in Muni high yield asset classes and experience in either municipal or corporate distressed situations
Exposure to the following sectors a plus: MSA/tobacco, dirt deals, assisted living/skilled nursing/CCRC, student housing, charter schools and retail oriented
Strong academic credentials and achievement; MBA/JD/CFA preferred
Deep understanding of global fixed income products, including tax-exempt and taxable products
Strong understanding of fixed income math with a background in statistics or economics

Oversees department budget request preparation and approval process. Analyzes and provides fiscal control of budgetary expenditures. Analyzes organizational issues, structure, staffing, operations, procedures, and policies to establish best practices. Manages the Budget and Research Office. Attends and makes presentations at City Council, Council Committee, and community budget outreach meetings, as needed. May serve as part of a labor relations team. Performs other related functions as assigned.
Four years of increasingly responsible professional and administrative experience in governmental budgetary and financial activities including administrative, productivity, and organizational analysis, including two years of supervisory experience. Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in public or business administration, finance, economics, accounting, or a related field. Possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

About EFTA's Monarch Research and Conservation on Military Lands Program
Environment for the Americas (EFTA) partners with the U.S. Forest Service and Department of Defense to monitor and conserve monarch butterflies on military installations. The program reflects a shared commitment to understanding and protecting the monarch's breeding and migratory habitats.
EFTA works closely with the Monarch Joint Venture, the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, university researchers, and Department of Defense Natural Resource Managers across the monarch's range.

Position Description
The Monarch Research and Education Internship offers hands-on experience in monarch monitoring, habitat assessments, conservation, and community outreach. Interns conduct field research using standardized protocols and work directly with biologists and Natural Resource Managers on military lands.
This is a field-focused position. Interns typically spend four days each week outdoors and one day completing data entry, writing, and administrative tasks. Fieldwork involves documenting milkweed presence, identifying blooming plants, and recording monarch eggs, larvae, and adults. Interns also support outreach activities designed to inspire interest in monarchs, pollinators, and migration among military families and school-aged children. All interns write biweekly blogs and attend virtual team meetings and webinars.
Key Responsibilities
Field Research

Required
