Job Title: Research Scientist Reporting: Director of Innovation Ascent Industries Co. is seeking a Research Scientist to join our Research and Development team. This role will serve as the technical focal point for new custom and contract manufacturing projects and drive successful execution from proof of concept through commercial-scale production. Rapidly produce samples for customer evaluation based on a thorough understanding of plant equipment capabilities and technical requirements Demonstrate expertise in a broad array of analytical instruments and drive new method development to align internal test methods and capabilities with customer methods and protocols. Leverage external labs for specialized test capabilities. Collaborate with key stakeholders in Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Product stewardship to drive successful commercialization. Engage with customers to gather process details, develop experimental plans, communicate project progress, present key findings, results, and support successful qualifications. Create Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for core lab activities. Assure safe lab operations and compliance with site regulations while ensuring zero recordables. The position will have an academic appointment in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering and will participate in a NIH -funded research program to develop multiple drug delivery formulations including a hydrogel system for cell therapies, and long-acting multipurpose prevention technologies for prevention of HIV and unplanned pregnancy and for a broader application in women's health. The focus of this position will be on formulation development and optimization combined with in vitro and in vivo characterization and testing. The Research Associate II, Bioanalytical, will report to the Director, Translational Biomarkers, and will participate in the development, qualification, validation, and execution of assays investigating biodistribution, viral shedding, and functional assessments in support of pre-clinical and clinical stage programs. This is an on-site lab-based position in Morrisville, NC and prior experience with methods for extraction and quantification of nucleic material (DNA, RNA) and protein is required. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of various molecular techniques to quantify transgene expression. Candidates may also have opportunities to learn different techniques for protein assessment. Experience with GxP regulation and working in a regulated lab space is preferred but not required. Job Responsibilities Isolate and quantify nucleic acids and proteins from various model systems and tissue types Participate in assay design, including assay qualification and validation Utilize molecular techniques including, but not limited to gene expression analysis, primer probe set design/validation, dd PCR, RT-dd PCR, ELISA, western blots, and MSD for sample analysis Responsible for co-authoring and reviewing test methods, work plans, SOPs, and qualification/validation reports Contribute to data review and quality control of data in support of regulatory filings Perform routine instrument maintenance and performance verification Maintain organized electronic and/or paper-based documentation that is fit-for-purpose with regards to regulatory requirements. Metabolon, Inc. is seeking an experienced professional with a strong background in data analysis, including expertise in mass spectrometry and chromatography. The ideal candidate will quickly adapt to our proprietary software, leveraging their analytical skills to conduct thorough data analysis and quality control. This role requires critical thinking and keen attention to detail to deliver accurate insights and solutions that drive the continued success and growth of our team. This role will work a hyrbird schedule (Tues - Thurs in office) from our RTP, NC location. Responsibilities Analyze Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and LC-MSMS data to assess the presence, absence, and potential interferences of over 5,000 metabolites. Cultivate an in-depth understanding of mass spectrometry data to generate innovative ideas and automation solutions. Troubleshoot and resolve data acquisition issues from LC-MS instruments that may affect downstream data quality. Verify and adjust chromatographic peak integrations to ensure accuracy. Participate in development opportunities, including: Expanding Metabolon's chemical library by adding new chemical entries. Assisting in the creation and optimization of automated data curation systems. Integrating peak data for targeted analysis projects. Curating experimental data to support company R&D initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in physical sciences, mathematical sciences, or a related STEM field. 2+ years of experience in analyzing data (strongly preferred). Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Proven ability to learn and adapt to new software tools. Motivated and goal-oriented, with a passion for continuous improvement. Must be able to work onsite at our RTP, NC headquarters.
