As the Career Advocate in Washington County, Utah. You will work with students aged 14-22, with disabilities to provide career-based guidance and support for job exploration, professional skills development, and access to resources for vocational training and/or educational institutions. The Career Advocate will assist students with identifying their learning styles, strengths, weaknesses, and interests while developing self-knowledge and self-advocacy skills that build confidence and encourage continued growth. They help students engage with the program, develop awareness of accommodation, and assist with requesting necessary accommodation on a job and in postsecondary education. This is a part-time position 10 months of the year (August 16th - June 15th). Job Responsibilities: Coach students and provide employment and career support services to students, employers, faculty, and staff. Work closely with parents, teachers, developmental specialists, and community partners in Washington County. Identify student needs and interests. Assist in development and delivery of programs including marketing and workshops to engage students and community members in the career development process. Develops contacts with industry related employers through proactive relationship building. May create and deliver presentations, workshops. Shift Details: You will join one of our two rotating shifts, working 8-day shifts in the backcountry with small groups of teenagers and 1-3 other guides. All guides have the opportunity to work both programs: ThreePeaks Groups: These groups live at a base camp in yurts. They engage in day hikes and other recreation activities. RedCliff Groups: These groups live primitively and nomadically, hiking and setting up camp across 400-square-mile valley in the high desert. Outdoor Youth Mentors can expect to start in the ThreePeaks Groups and be in the ThreePeaks groups more frequently. Responsibilities Work 8 consecutive days in the backcountry with struggling teenagers Ensure the supervision and safety of students Mentor students in primitive and outdoor skills Assist students in their curriculum work Share appreciation and knowledge of nature and the outdoors Lead students through experiential activities Facilitate group discussions Create a safe environment for students to process their emotions De-escalate and manage crises within the group Provide support, direction, and feedback to coworkers during shifts Address challenges and obstacles of the backcountry creatively and safely Carry essential gear such as 1st Aid kit, radio, and SPOT device Follow all company policies and procedures Follow all local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and laws Remember to have fun--we are working with kids!
