1954

Our founder, Howard J. Rubenstein, founded the firm in 1954 at his mother’s kitchen table after dropping out of Harvard Law School.

1957

1970

Governor Nelson Rockefeller receives the endorsement of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association during his 1970 gubernatorial campaign.

Nidetch.” Regular television appearances with Johnny Carson, best-selling books, lectures, and radio appearances elevated the profile of Weight Watchers which was sold in 1978 to the H.J. Heinz Company for $71.2 million.

1983

In 1983 for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the original King Kong movie, Howard arranged for a giant (80 ft.) King Kong to be attached to The Empire State Building.

1987

He cofounded Carlyle in 1987 with William Conway Jr. and Daniel D'Aniello.

1988

Murdoch had been forced to sell the paper in 1988 due to media cross-ownership regulations.

2004

As a United States Senator Clinton played an instrumental role in getting the first Eagle Academy in the Bronx off the ground in 2004.

2012

As the Breakthrough Prize website notes: “Since its inception in 2012, the Breakthrough Prize has awarded close to $200 million to honor paradigm-shifting research in the fields of fundamental physics, life sciences, and mathematics.”

2020

Under the leadership of Association for a Better New York Chair Steven Rubenstein and CEO Melva Miller, ABNY led a successful multi-year campaign that brought together a coalition of government, corporate, and community-based partners to help New York fight for a fair and accurate 2020 Census count.
