Minimum of 5 years of dedicated safety experience in a shipyard, maritime, or heavy industrial safety environment is required. Proven experience with hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation. OSHA 10/30-hour certification in Construction or General Industry (Shipyard specific preferred). Current Shipyard Competent Person (SCP) qualification is preferred. CPR and First Aid certifications are a plus. Thorough knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations, particularly 29 CFR Part 1915. Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Title: Safety Specialist Department: Health, Safety & Security Reports To: Health, Safety & Security Manager Gramercy, LA FLSA Status: Exempt Job Summary/Objective The Safety Specialist will provide guidance on occupational safety and health standards, risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems on their scheduled shift. This role will focus on compliance, critical hazards, and risk reduction. This role will drive behavioral change to achieve a culture of hazard recognition, abatement and/or risk reduction. Essential Functions Facilitate the organization's safety & health ownership through integration of the safety & health management system. Assist with the development and utilization of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazards. Assist departmental and safety leadership with the development of short and long-term safety & health objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that identify critical hazards, prioritize, and mitigate risks. Evaluate, interpret, and ensure compliance with safety and health laws, regulations and company policies as it relates to the operation of the department and facility. Deliver safety training to employees in the department. Coordinate the safety work order program for the shift to ensure proper prioritization and completion of outstanding items.
