What we want
The Security Officer in Training - Nights, under supervision, receives classroom and on-the-job training from Security Officer Supervisors and University Police Officers to gain familiarity and experience for the position. Provides a positive image of a concerned and capable security professional through bearing, demeanor and presence as duties are performed throughout campus in a highly visible manner during evening and night hours. Pay Rate: $16.64 per hour

Position Details: The Security Officer in Training - Nights, works non-business hours; shifts starting at or after 4:00 p.m. and ending at 8:00 a.m. and they must have the ability to operate a two-wheel self-balancing mobile patrol unit.
Hire date will be on, or after, September 1st, 2025.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
* High School graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Required Licenses:
* Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "C" vehicle operator's license within 30 days of employment
* Inability to obtain State of Texas class "C" vehicle operator's license may result in termination
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Ability to work with reduced levels of managerial oversight
* Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population
* Physical ability and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities, which require outside working conditions and shift work with varying days off

Responsibilities:
* Patrols buildings and grounds on foot or car and looks for suspicious activity, unlocked doors, fires, vandalism and act as a deterrent to criminal activity by their presence. Due to less managerial oversight during non-business hours, may be required to make decisions and apply discretion on security issues and criminal reporting issues more frequently than similar positions during business hours.
* Provides "on-site" security by assuming specific duties within certain buildings, such as libraries, athletic facilities and research laboratories, as well as property of TAMU located off campus. Due to conditions of darkness, must be more alert for hazards and security threats.
* Provides information to visitors, students, and employees or directs such inquiries to appropriate personnel.
* Provides support duty to University Police during instances of special events, e.g. football games, yell practice. Perform other duties as assigned.

Follow established policies, procedures and practices of the department. Abide by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department Code of Ethics. Maintain security and confidentiality of all case information, files and chronos as required by the Texas Family Code. Facilitates and participates in departmental programs.

Education
Required: High School Diploma or its equivalent, plus three (3) years of responsible, paid experience in a juvenile correctional work setting.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
Experience
Required: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Customer Service
Ensures faculty and staff have access to the facilities they need to perform their job upon request.
Locks/unlocks doors on a regular schedule and as requested by individuals (if appropriate).

The Public Safety Officer assists in providing a safe and secure environment for all employees and visitors at assigned location so faculty can focus on teaching and students can concentrate on learning. Provides general assistance (gives directions, answers questions, provides information, etc.) to faculty, staff, students and visitors and projects a positive image of PVAMU by maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor. Contributes to the overall safety and security of students, employees, visitors and PVAMU property by maintaining a uniformed presence. Requests assistance from Prairie View University police officers for law enforcement matters, or off-campus police, fire, and EMS personnel as needed. Assists PMVAMU Police Officers as directed within the scope of responsibility.

Campus Patrol
Patrols campus grounds and buildings on foot or in golf carts; reports safety hazards and physical security deficiencies verbally and in writing.
Walks through buildings monitoring the hallways with attention to classroom activity to create a comfortable and safe academic environment.
Makes written reports regarding suspicious activities. Stays vigilant in order to observe and report any need for police officer response. Periodically tours parking lot to ensure safety of property. Renders vehicle services in the form of jump-starts, vehicle door unlocks, and the calling of wreckers as requested. Enforces PVAMU and location regulations of a non-law enforcement nature (parking, smoking, etc.).
Emergency Response
Responds to medical or fire assistance requests, aiding the Officer and/or leading the responding EMS/Fire Department personnel to the appropriate location in conjunction with a PVAMU Police Officer.
Monitors and responds to fire alarms, checks fire extinguishers while on patrol to ensure that they are in place and charged, and reports those that need maintenance.
Responds to low risk calls for service to assess the scene and determine the need for police, fire, or EMS response.
Customer Service
Ensures faculty and staff have access to the facilities they need to perform their job upon request.
Locks/unlocks doors on a regular schedule and as requested by individuals (if appropriate).
Provides general assistance to students, visitors, faculty and staff as needed. Answers questions from employees and visitors. If unable to give correct information, directs them to the proper person to answer their question.
Directs traffic and guests on events held at various locations within the confines of PVAMU owned or controlled property.
