The delivery of quality service and positive interaction with our customers is critical to the completion of all the tasks within this job description. Screen cargo following TSA Guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to Physical Inspection, X-Ray and other electronic equipment.
Guard and patrol physical property; monitor system response; orient and monitor personnel working in high risk areas; and investigation of accidents and criminal acts.
Process report for the Security Supervisor and/or Dir of Sec., identifying areas of concern in weekly and daily reports.
Maintain a working knowledge of all emergency policies, procedures and regulations; respond immediately to emergency alarms or calls for help, determine course of action, notify appropriate authorities and assist as needed.
Develop and recommend new procedures and approaches to safety and loss prevention based on reports of incidents, accidents, and other relevant information.
Be proactive in obtaining information in regards to post orders, revisions, and daily event needs, (i.e. parking list, and access changes).
Implement security/safety improvements that benefit the company's assets, visitors, tenants, and employees as directed.
Maintains operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
These functions are not limited to these listed and may be expanded upon at any time, however it will be mutually agreed upon.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Summary:

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Officer (Patrol)
Patrol and observe all areas of the campus.
Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students, employees, and visitors.
Secure and protect the buildings, equipment, and other assets of the College.

Perform parking enforcement.
Perform investigations of incidents and prepare detailed, accurate incident reports.

Lead and support the SMS team

Patrol Officer performs duties related to law enforcement such as preventing crimes, investigating suspicious activity, apprehending violators, assisting persons in trouble, directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic and enforcing traffic laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Patrols assigned area on foot or driving vehicles searching for suspicious activity or situations and checking for persons in need of service.
Monitors radio and other communication devices to receive assigned runs, and to maintain awareness of activities in assigned area or by other officers.
Assist citizens with problems such as lost children, injured persons, animal bites, civil disputes, locked doors, vehicle inspection and verifications, and abandoned vehicles.
Refers persons to appropriate social service agencies when situation warrants.
Responds to assigned run by driving, walking, or running to specified location, assesses situation, determines need for others assistance, and takes appropriate action.

Interviews victims, suspects, and witnesses, and records responses and observation.
Pursues, apprehends, searches, and arrests suspects using necessary force, advises suspects of rights when applicable, and transports suspects to detention area.
Restrains persons from physically striking or injuring yourself or others by using appropriate force.
Drives vehicle at high speed when situation warrants due to nature of emergency.
Stops drivers of vehicles when traffic violations are observed, verify license and registration data, advise driver of safe driving practices, and issuing warnings, citations, or making arrests as warranted.
Directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic when congestion occurs or as directed.
Reports as directed to scenes of general emergencies, and take appropriate action to protect life and property, such as directing traffic, quarantining area, assisting individuals in leaving area, preventing looting, and requesting appropriate assistance.
Maintains visibility in the community by meeting and talking with citizens, providing information, visiting local businesses, and making presentations to school, neighborhood, and civic organizations.
Writes reports and completes forms as required by operating procedure and makes oral reports to appropriate personnel.
Testifies in Court and prepares for such testimony by reviewing reports and notes, meeting with attorneys, and obtaining evidence.
Participates in training on law enforcement procedures, including firearms, criminal justice, and Court procedure, and emergency medical aid, and related subjects.
Maintains uniforms, equipment, and weapons, and be subject to inspection with reasonable notice.
Each officer must maintain physical condition to perform the duties required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Monitors department cell phone service for phone calls, voicemails, and electronic messages.
Maintains department email account daily during work hours, preferably at the beginning of each shift. This includes reading all department emails and updates as well as deleting old messages to prevent reaching full capacity of the email service.

Those who MAY be selected to attend our inside Ohio lateral academy (5weeks):

Current Ohio police officers who have previously attended and graduated from the Columbus Division of Police Training Academy and currently work in a law enforcement capacity with another Ohio agency. After completion of five weeks of Certified Lateral Training, officers will complete a 12-week Field Training program on Patrol.

2. Pushups: Hands are placed slightly wider than shoulder width apart, with fingers pointed forward. Starting from the up position (elbows extended, only hands and feet touching the floor) the back must remain straight at all times. The applicant must lower their body to the floor until their chest touches the administrator's fist. The applicant then returns to the up position. This is one repetition.
3. Vertical Jump: Applicant jumps as high as possible and marks the highest point of their jump by touching a measuring stick. The applicant may only move one foot prior to the jump and must jump from both feet. The arms may thrust upward. Measurement is the total inches above the standard reach point.
4. 1.5 Mile Run: Applicant Runs or walks for a distance of 1.5 miles in 16 minutes 28 seconds or less.
5. 300 Meter Run: Applicant runs 300 meters in 71 seconds or less.

Prepares for duty by properly wearing a uniform, ensuring all worn equipment is operational (i.e., body-worn camera, firearm, etc.), and inspecting the vehicle and its equipment to ensure readiness for duty;
Interacts with members of the community to promote public safety and crime prevention; patrols an assigned area for the prevention of crimes; responds to questions, concerns, and complaints to resolve situations and to provide law enforcement services;
Responds to calls for police service by assessing the information attained through dispatch, training, and experience to determine the type of situation and response needed; drives at appropriate speeds to safely arrive on scene;
Appears at scenes of crimes, disputes, and vehicle accidents; visually and audibly evaluates victims, suspects, and scene layout to make an initial determination of safety and threat level; evaluates the needs of victims and bystanders;
Investigates reports of crimes and complaints by collecting accounts of the incident and physical evidence to ensure the integrity of and to corroborate statements; identifies, collects, and protects evidence used in the commission of crimes or traffic offenses;
Intervenes in disputes by actively listening to involved parties, maintaining visual contact with disputants, and asking relevant questions to determine the most appropriate strategy to protect the public and mediate disputes;
Conducts pat-down searches, vehicle searches, and premises searches following proper procedures to ensure officer safety, public safety, and collection of evidence;
Pursues suspects on foot or via bicycle, motorcycle, or motor vehicle to effect an arrest;
Apprehends and/or charges persons responsible for criminal or traffic violations; confirms and executes existing warrants through the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS);
Determines appropriate violations of law by referring to the Ohio Revised Code or City Code to reflect accurate charges in citations, incident reports, accident reports, and arrest reports; issues initial court dates;
Appears in court as a testifying officer, serves subpoenas, and assists in the enforcement of court orders;
Facilitates medical or mental health treatment and social services for individuals and arranges the transportation of individuals to these facilities;
Explains policies, directives, the Ohio Revised Code, Columbus City Code, or court activities to individuals to foster understanding of what is under an officer's jurisdiction;
Prepares official forms and reports and submits to superiors for appropriate actions;
Responds to disasters as a first responder; manages evacuations, controls traffic in disaster areas, and uses protective equipment where hazardous materials may be present;
Continuously learns, reviews, and stays up-to-date on current division policies, trainings, and procedures; maintains first aid, firearms, and other required certifications.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence (GED).
At least twenty (20) years of age when applying, and at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of being sworn in.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license at time of hire(appointment).
A citizen of the United States of America.
SPECIAL NOTE
Police Officers must successfully pass the Division's Basic Peace Officer Training Academy and Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) final exam.
The probationary period shall conclude three hundred sixty-five (365) days after being sworn in unless the City further extends the probationary period beyond the 365 days per Civil Service Rule XI (C).
Tattoo Policy: Applicants are expected to meet the Division's Tattoo policy at the time of hire.
Directive 11.01- Professional Appearance
Shall have no visible tattoos on the head, neck, or hands.
Shall have no tattoos (visible or not visible) that depict obscene or gang-related images or extremist or otherwise offensive images that may bring the Division into disrepute.
No visible body modifications or gauges shall be permitted.
No visible piercings with jewelry (other than the ears) shall be permitted.
