    Primary Purpose of the Organization: The Fayetteville State University Department of Police and Public Safety is responsible for maintaining a safe learning and working environment for our Students, Staff, Faculty, and visitors. FSU Traffic and Parking Services The Primary Purpose of the Position: This position performs security, traffic, and parking enforcement, as well as public contact work, in support of campus operations. Work involves securing, guarding, and protecting property and grounds by patrolling the interior and exterior of facilities and other campus areas on foot, in vehicles, or by other means. Work involves operation of an access control point guardhouse, which includes checking identification documentation for persons and vehicles entering the campus, logging in visitors, maintaining documentation of visitors and non-registered vehicles entering campus, and denying access to persons and vehicles, as required; Work involves guarding property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards, monitoring assigned areas for possible violations of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognizing and reporting unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations; providing information and assistance to the public; operating and maintaining security, traffic, and parking enforcement equipment; and maintaining related records and reports. Work requires knowledge of standard safety, security, traffic, and parking enforcement practices and equipment; a basic understanding of standard methods for reporting and handling emergencies, such as disturbances, fires, medical emergencies, and security threats; and knowledge of applicable policies, rules, and regulations. Maintains confidentiality and discretion in the course of conducting business; works individually and/or with others; and adapts to change and circumstances. May require rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime. This position is essential and is required to report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters, and other emergency conditions, as well as during campus closings. Reports to Property Security Supervisor. Other duties as assigned. Perform traffic and parking enforcement, security, and public contact work in support of campus operations. Monitor use of parking facilities and traffic ways, issue citations, perform traffic control and direction, and provide information and assistance to motorists on campus. Guard property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards; monitor assigned areas for possible violations of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognize and report unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations. Operate and maintain security, traffic, and parking enforcement equipment; and maintain related records and reports. Provide escorts, transport personnel, and make deliveries. Supervise students, resolve complaints, and conduct investigations. Provide other related duties as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Communication Skills: Ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts. Communicates information orally or in writing to individuals or groups to ensure that they understand the message. Listens and responds appropriately to messages from others. Communicates regarding issues that require professional judgment or interpretation. Explains policies, rules, and regulations with tact and courtesy. Completes documentation and reports, as needed. Interacts with co-workers, supervisors, emergency response personnel, university officials, and the public to provide assistance and relay information. Security, Patrol, and Enforcement: Ability to coordinate security or enforcement for an assigned area or shift.Patrols, guards, and secures property and grounds. Monitors assigned areas for potential violations of laws and regulations, issuing Campus Appearance Tickets as required. Assists in emergency response. Ability to conduct security patrols of both the interior and exterior of the facilities. Ability to climb stairs and the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods. Ability to read and interpret written instructions, policies, procedures, training materials, rosters/event sign-in methods, and identification documents. Decision Making: Ability to independently resolve issues and problems. Identifies problems/concerns and quickly takes appropriate action consistent with available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences. GENERAL PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: The Security Officer role is to secure premises and personnel by patrolling; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry. Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures. II. Flex Officer Explanation The Flex Officer position is crucial to our company's operational and financial success. The flex officer provides trained, competent support by working shifts which become open due to illness, call-offs, weather, vacation, or other causes. This enables Sunstates to provide continual, uninterrupted service to our customers, while also protecting the health and work balance of our personnel. Scheduling Expectations The scheduling parameters and expectations for a flex officer are different from those of an employee assigned to a fixed post. As a flex: You will be trained at various posts and /or facilities based on operational need. While you may work at a specific post or location for several weeks due to need, this will not be a permanent assignment. Your schedule (shifts, days off, hours per week, etc.) will vary based on operational need. You will be assigned to, or offered the opportunity to accept, shifts as they become available due to staffing needs. Some of your shifts will be scheduled in advance and posted with the new week's schedule. Sometimes you will be called with short notice and asked to come in to cover for someone who is unable to work their shift. You are expected to work any shift for which you are scheduled in advance which falls within the availability described on this sheet. If you know you will be unavailable on an upcoming date or time that would normally fall within your availability described on this sheet, you must communicate this with your supervisor, so they know not to schedule you. For short-notice call-ins, you are expected to work at least 80% of the shifts for which you are called. If you refuse more than 20% of shifts for which you are called in, this could negatively impact your employment status with the company. A Security Officer may perform a multitude of duties as specified by the Post Orders and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
