Role Overview
Washington Shoe Company has an opening for a Footwear Designer with strong experience in sneakers, outdoor adventure footwear, and performance-driven design. This role is responsible for creating and developing innovative footwear for Western Chief, Chooka and Staheekum. The ideal candidate brings a keen eye for trend direction, a technical understanding of performance materials, and expertise in designing versatile footwear built for both everyday wear and outdoor environments.
This position requires trend research, CAD development, material and component selection, color design, last understanding, and hands-on participation in fittings. The designer will collaborate closely with co-designers, Production, Sales, and Marketing to maintain and evolve the brand identity.

Key Responsibilities
Research seasonal sneaker, outdoor, and adventure-footwear trends, including materials, technologies, and color stories; present findings through inspirational trend boards for Sales and Marketing.
Utilize product selling data and line plans to design 2-3 collections per year, including inline, catalog, and special make-up programs.
Create detailed spec tech packs, CADs, and design documentation for sample development.
Communicate with overseas factories and agents using clear visual and physical references to ensure design accuracy and execution.
Partner with sourcing and costing to ensure materials, constructions, and components meet cost and margin targets.
Engineer and modify designs based on factory capabilities, performance requirements, and cost considerations while preserving brand integrity and design intent.
Participate in wear-testing, fittings, and QC reviews to validate comfort, performance, and durability.
Manage multiple projects from concept and proto development through commercialization and production handoff.

Check vendor and other discipline drawings against own or other designed work for correctness.
Provide information to other designers on interface requirements (i.e., equipment spacing, cable numbering, instrument numbering, control philosophy, flow element requirements, etc.).
Provide material take-offs for bulk commodities from completed engineering documents.
Provide on-site and/or remote project Instrumentation support to Construction and Start Up personnel.

You will bring strategic problem solving and industry leading hands-on design skills and take a critical role in designing novel Softgoods solutions to improve the aesthetics and ergonomics for our consumer electronics devices. You'll own the design of parts/assemblies such as facial interfaces, strap systems, wrist wearables with integrated electronics and charging carry cases. We also provide support for our accessories lines such as carry cases and VR headset customization. Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Digital Design, Human Centered Design, Psychology, or equivalent
8+ years of professional experience in a Product Design/UX role, ideally in a large business or enterprise environment working on complex data and productivity solutions
Expert-level mastery of user-centered design and design thinking practices, with proven success defining vision, leading end-to-end product experiences, and applying modern methodologies to deliver innovative, meaningful solutions that drive user and business outcomes
A strong portfolio demonstrating strategic design leadership, showcasing concept development, user flows, and high-quality execution across complex, enterprise-level challenges, with a track record of driving clarity, alignment, and innovation
Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions, influence stakeholders, and advocate for design excellence across cross-functional teams
