Staff Engineers will work with cross functional groups on CPD projects and are expected to handle responsibilities and perform moderately complex assignments involving large and important projects, with only general direction of management personnel. The Staff Engineer will exhibit considerable project management skill, including complete planning, implementation and critique of all engineering deliverables.
**Specific Responsibilities**
+ Conduct engineering analysis and implementation of design modifications to improve performance, manufacturability, or cost optimization.
+ Prototype concepts and test them in Kohler's test lab.
+ Diagnose laboratory test failures, establish root causes, and implement solutions.

Your Role on Our Team:

Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Spacelift, GitHub Actions, Databricks Asset Bundles, Azure Pipelines) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
Proven ability to build CI/CD pipelines and model registries from scratch.

The Lead Product Engineer within the Repair and Overhaul Engineering team will lead or support various initiatives for our Service product lines. Remanufacturing (Waukesha re Up) is a major focus of the role and requires technical leadership on projects to create component specifications, develop remanufacturing processes, and provide engineering support to manufacturing. This effort will enable the revitalization of our reciprocating engine fleet, by updating them to the latest industry-leading technology, enabling in improved lifecycle, performance, and emissions. This position also includes responsibilities in service-only component support and product cost out.
Essential Responsibilities
Serve as primary engineering interface resolution of technical / process questions and issues, communicating with manufacturing and quality engineers, production supervisors and personnel, engine test facilities, product line management, current product engineering team and materials lab, and field service and service engineering team.
Lead / participate in technical design reviews for new re Up development projects. Provide input for potential remanufacturing processes and cost estimates of remanufactured components.
Solve reliability issues by leading root cause analysis, defining both short-term and long-term corrective actions for re Up and service engine components.
Create remanufacturing specifications detailing what is allowable to rework adhering to specific tolerances/finish/etc. as well as what historical part numbers are not allowable.
Provide technical leadership to new supplier development of remanufacturing providers, leading validation tests for key components (may require travel).
Solve technical issues preventing engines and engine components from attaining their expected attributes, by providing rapid response to manufacturing engineers and production leaders.
Create and review engineering change requests for product improvements and cost reductions, driving related design and release activities to completion as they relate to remanufacturing operations.
Provide technical part support for current product, legacy product, and part supersessions.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
2+ years' engineering experience or strong mechanical background, supported by participation in relevant extracurricular activities or hobbies
Experience in 3D solid-modeling CAD software
Proficiency utilizing engineering skills to analyze technical requirements to design / develop medium complexity components and assemblies
Demonstrated problem solving skills
