On September 1, 1982, Sherwood Oaks, a “community for active older people,” opened its doors.
1999 – Opened the Fitness Center and built a perimeter walking trail
Name Changes and a Screenwriting Focus 2000
2001 – A new Gatehouse was completed, and residents established the Employee Scholarship Fund, which continues to provide generous scholarship grants to Sherwood Oaks employees.
2002 – Sherwood Oaks became a part of UPMC Senior Communities
2009 – Phase one completion of nine new patio homes featuring fireplaces, open kitchens, and 2-car attached garages
2010 – New residents seeking retirement in Pittsburgh began moving into the 24-unit Lakeside Apartment Building
Around 2010, Sherwood Oaks Experimental College dropped the word “Experimental” from its name.
2012 – The renovated 43-bed Skilled Nursing facility opens
2014 – Phase two completion of four new patio homes
