Shore Health Services Inc company history timeline
The Eastern Shore State Hospital (ESSH) had it’s beginning in 1912 as a result of the General Assembly's decision to provide care for the mentally ill residents of the Eastern Shore counties of Maryland.
Pictured are two of the original buildings opened in 1915.
By 1932, the hospital had grown to include 150 beds and was moved to its permanent location on Corlies Avenue in Neptune.

The physical growth of hospital buildings continued for several decades and the average daily population increased steadily to 675-680 patients in 1956.
In 2006, the children’s hospital located in Jersey Shore University Medical Center became the first state-designated children’s hospital in the bi-county area and was renamed K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital.
