Assess the physical setting of the classroom to establish the location most appropriate for serving the student. Discourage inappropriate dependencies, such as: repetition of information for inattentive student, reminders of assignments, or teacher talking directly to interpreter rather than student. Reflect a positive professional attitude and appearance. Maintain confidentiality of information. Address concerns and questions to the teacher of the hearing impaired or other appropriate professional. Collaborate with teachers and other service providers regarding student needing interpreting services. Comes to work regularly and promptly. Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Special Education or designee. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-exempt position. Ten month work year. Salary to Established by the Board.

Personnel will have two years from the date of hire to reach the required qualifications. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public. Personnel providing educational interpreting services for children using Cued Speech must have a valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Level III for Cued Speech or hold a national Transliteration Skills Certificate from the Testing, Evaluation and Certification Unit (TEC Unit) or equivalent recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
