Job Summary
Summary
Responsible for facilitating the successful delivery of services to patients and family members of various languages.
Follows requests for interpretation, collaborating with qualified auxiliary interpreters for comprehensive accommodation of interpretation requests. Provides translation service (both sight translation & written translation) of pertinent materials for patients and families, such as written information regarding relevant services, pre-operative, post-operative, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care materials.

Essential Functions
-Serve as a mediator, as necessary and when appropriate, to enhance communication between staff and patients/family as it relates to medical care and adhere to the standard code of ethics for medical interpreters.
-Keep accurate documentation of interpretation encounters to include relevant data such as location, duration, and purpose.
-Provides coordination and staff training on the use of the telephone language interpretation services (and relevant equipment).
-Answer calls promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
-Function in a manner appropriate to each interpreted situation, demonstrating professional appearance, conduct, and promptness.
-Adheres to standard code of ethics for medical interpreters.
Qualifications
1. Bachelors Degree with a concentration in a human relations field (i.e. Sociology, Psychology) highly preferable.
2. At least 2 years of college level education and 2 years of hospital and/or health care related experience in a position of direct patient contact.
3. Fluency of English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
4. Prior training of medical terminology and interpreting skills.
5. Knowledge of culture-specific care.

The Sign Language Interpreter will provide ASL interpretation to support the ACCS team in providing services to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals receiving services from ACCS. This position will enable communication between the deaf and hearing staff and between deaf individuals and hearing staff. This position supports the Leominster and Worcester regions and requires travel to programs of these areas.
Other Key responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities
Provide expressive and voice interpreting for students and/or staff who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in academic, extracurricular, and school-related settings.
Use a variety of communication methods as needed (e.g., ASL, Manually Coded English, Pidgin Signed English, or Oral Interpreting).
Prepare for classes by reviewing instructional materials, lesson plans, and relevant subject vocabulary.

Serve as a communication and cultural liaison among Deaf and hearing students, faculty, and staff.

This is a temporary contract position, and the incumbent will interpret spoken or written content into signed content and interpret signed content into spoken or written content. The Contracted Interpreter's main duties will be to work with Deaf staff in their interactions with other agency staff, clients/consumers, service providers colleagues, community members and other stakeholders.

Work closely with the Deaf Service Program Coordinator, to:
Ensure the MS Outlook calendar is up to date.
Schedule appropriate blocks of time for interpreting services following staff requirements and team availability.
Identify scheduling conflicts and help meet short notice/last minute requests
Identify when a freelance interpreter is needed to fill teaming and scheduling needs
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience providing interpretation and/or transliteration services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population.
Knowledge of both formal and informal registers of English, American Sign Language, and other signed communication (PSE, Contact Sign, etc.)
Bilingual or multilingual fluency in languages other than ASL and English.
Knowledge of specialized vocabularies (technical, medical, scientific, and so on) in both English and American Sign Language.
Bachelor's Degree from an Interpreter Training Program.
Certification by the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or other interpreter certification judged equivalent by MCDHH
OR
proof of successful screening through MCDHH.
Advanced certification or successful completion of training in the Mental Health specialty area.
Familiarity with Mental Health conditions/experience working in Behavioral Health settings.
Excellent written, oral, and digital communication skills.
Knowledge of Deaf culture and the Deaf community.
Strong understanding of the Code of Ethics established by the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc.
Ability to perform simultaneous and consecutive interpretation.
Ability to work in a team setting and independently.
Ability to establish rapport with persons from different ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds and deal tactfully with others.
Experience in the use of technology required for the job, including technology critical for remote work (e.g., Zoom, Outlook calendar, Teams, etc.).
Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Excel and Outlook and other software programs.
Flexibility and willingness to work with an ever-changing schedule.
Available to work 20 hours per week as needed

Located on over 20 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient, and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations.
WRCH provides inpatient services to 290 adults and 30 adolescents, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service program for 10 patients.

The Early Intervention program of People Incorporated is looking for a caring Translator/Interpreter. The Early Intervention (EI) Translator provides language interpretation services to support communication between early intervention providers, children, and families with limited English proficiency or those who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Early Intervention Translator ensures accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation during assessments, meetings, and service delivery, enabling effective communication and participation for all parties involved.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide real-time interpretation during early intervention sessions, intakes, assessments, home visits, Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings, and other relevant interactions as requested by EI Developmental Specialists, Therapists, and Supervisors.
Accurately convey spoken or signed language between English and the target language, ensuring that the meaning, tone, and intent of the original communication are preserved.
Act as a cultural liaison, helping EI team members to understand cultural nuances that may affect communication and service delivery.
Assist families in understanding the cultural context of the EI services, policies, and procedures.
Maintain accurate records of interpretation sessions as required by the organization, including time spent, services provided, and any significant observations.
Translate written documents, such as consent forms, informational brochures, and service plans, as requested.
Participate in team meetings to discuss service delivery and contribute to the development of effective communication strategies.
Adhere to all confidentiality requirements and professional ethics related to interpreting in EI settings.
Maintain a neutral and impartial stance during all interpreting assignments, ensuring that personal opinions or biases do not influence the communication process.
Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on best practices in interpretation, EI services, and cultural competency.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, division management team member, or division director.
Participate in all staff meetings and required training sessions, including in-service training, as scheduled.
Maintain all program and Agency required trainings.
QUALIFICATION
Written and verbal fluency in English and the target language(s) (spoken or sign language).
Strong understanding of medical and educational terminology relevant to early intervention.
Maintain on file a current copy of all required professional licenses, CPR, first aid, and health records.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build rapport with children, families, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
A qualifying criminal background check, driving record, and a valid driver s license required.
Ability to provide a current copy of all required health records.

Duties & Responsibilities
Controls entrance to building, insuring only authorized personnel. Ensures all persons sign in upon entering and sign confidentiality form if entering residential units.
Assist front office staff with answering phones.
Monitors any activity outside buildings to ensure security. Tours exterior of buildings and parking areas repeatedly during shift.
Assists staff in the event of any emergencies.
Assist front office staff with drop offs and taking client information.
Make rounds regularly.
Assist with discharges from unit and escort client off property when administratively discharged.
Records any unusual events or circumstances also; making sure incident reports are filled out correctly. Communicates with on-call staff when necessary.
Snow removal as needed. Keeps entrance ways accessible and free of hazards especially during inclement weather including snow and debris removal
Able to lift 40lbs.
Monitor security cameras for entire property.
Assisting with parking lot duties.
Other duties as required.
Education & Experience
Highschool diploma or equivalent.
At least one-year experience in similar role.
Experience with de-escalation methods.
Good work history.
Ability to manage unusual situations and assist in emergencies.
Must have a valid Drivers License.
Strong Oral and Written Skills.
Ability to function effectively as a treatment team member.
Evidence of good health, grooming and professional conduct.
