Working at Stagedoor Manor

I was an educator at this camp, and I was disappointed to find out that the camp teaches the children to be stars, not actors. I saw elitism being encouraged. The sense that just because you can sing, dance, or act better does not make you a better person than others around you who also enjoy the theatre. The despicable mind games that are played on the kids by the "directors" can really mess up a young person's mind. It is really a pity. The camp has the potential to be a great place for learning, but instead, it is a place for spoiled rich kids to look down on others. My advice to the older kids at Stagedoor Manor is to get a job at a real Summer Stock Theatre, to see how real theatre is performed, and gain some valuable experience if they want to pursue a career on the stage

I will never forget working at Stagedoor Manor.

Seeing the campus in my rearview mirror for the last time.

Did not listen to a word I said.

Start pandering and start teaching.

I can answer all questions in a personal manner.

It paid better than some summer camps. However was not nearly enough.

The camp was diverse, with rich kids from all backgrounds

Being respected for my work (which I was not here)

The community it creates. Working with other creatives.

Housing it needs to be updated. It’s time that we all jump into the twentieth century

Collaboration with other artists. It’s the best.
