The program is focused on quarry operations and includes hands-on training in pit and plant activities, including pit design, haul truck and water truck operation, blasting, primary, secondary, and tertiary plant operation and maintenance, quality control, and sales and dispatch. The program is structured to provide training and experience in each area, with a focus on developing competencies in areas such as equipment operation, safety, planning and prioritization, and maintenance. Throughout the program, interns will participate in Luck Stone's safety culture and team-building activities, and will have opportunities to network with industry professionals. At the end of the program, interns will present a summary of their experiences and learning outcomes. Responsibilities: Complete assigned tasks and projects with a high level of quality and attention to detail Participate in hands-on training and practice in pit and plant activities Assist with equipment maintenance and repair Follow quality control procedures and participate in lab testing as required Assist with sales and dispatch activities, including weighing and ticketing haul trucks Maintain a clean and organized work area Attend daily safety briefings and actively participate in hazard identification and reporting Actively seek out feedback and coaching from supervisors and team members Complete end-of-summer presentation summarizing experiences and learning outcomes. Ideal candidates will be currently enrolled in an advanced degree or certificate program in a field related to the industry and have a desire to grow within the mining field. General Information: JMU Talent Development (TD) is seeking a talented and qualified undergraduate from any major who will assist the Talent Development team in training room hospitality. Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant will help with Talent Development's mission to grow the talents of JMU's employees, primarily by supporting workshops. This includes providing room setup and breakdown, greeting participants, giving opening announcements, and preparing administrative tasks associated with training workshops, including printing handouts, room signage, and setting up materials. Additional duties will be assigned as needed and may include phone support for the department, assisting with marketing efforts, research, and proofreading. Outstanding customer service for internal and external customers and strong communication skills are necessary. The Assistant may also have opportunities to contribute to other TD projects based on their specific strengths and abilities. Qualifications: Requirements include knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, working knowledge of Microsoft Office, ability to perform a wide variety of tasks while maintaining attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. This person should demonstrate a high degree of customer service insight and professionalism, as well as the ability to work well with employees from all staffing levels. Dependability is key. The TD office is open from 8:00-5:00, Monday through Friday. Professional development workshops are consistently scheduled from 9:00 to 4:00. As a result, the ideal candidate(s) would be available to work from 8:30 to 11:30 and/or 12:30 to 3:30. Students may work up to 20 hours per week. Must be Federal Work Study eligible.
