Swampscott High School company history timeline

1800

A few large resorts were built in the 1800's which attracted wealthy patrons, families and businessmen from across the country.

1857

In 1857 land at the far western edge of Salem known as the “Salem Finger” was annexed to Swampscott bringing the total land area to 3.05 square miles.

1905

1909

The first football team was organized in 1909 and nicknamed the "Sculpins." The team played three games that first season, winning one, losing one and tying one.

1924

1943

One of Swampscott's most successful coaches was Harold Martin, who led the team for 13 years, winning four Northeast conference championships and two co-championships as well as a Class C State title in 1943.

1972

In 1972, his team won the first Division 2 Super Bowl title defeating Catholic Memorial.

2002

He and Tim Kiely were the first pair of 1,000-yard receivers for the same team in North Shore history back in 2002.

2007

Steve Dembowski led Swampscott to the 2007 Super Bowl win at Gillette Stadium.
